Dare To Be Stupid: 11/06/06

In this first post under the new title, I want to post something I found the Friday before my vacation but decided to hold onto until I could give it a proper release, which is today.

You may remember back a few weeks when I posted about a citizen who defended himself from a crazed and probably drug addled attacker in the downtown Seattle shopping area of Westlake (here, here and here).

Quick recap: Innocent pedestrian was physically attacked by Daniel Culotti, a convicted arsonist with a deep history of drug offenses and mental health issues. Said citizen attempted to fight back but was knocked to the ground by the larger Culotti and at that time pulled his concealed pistol and fired one shot at Culotti, killing him.

In the ever increasingly whiny Seattle, Culotti’s Uncle, Joseph Culotti, wrote a letter to the Seattle Times calling the citizen who was defending himself against Daniel Culotti’s overwhelming attack “A Misguided Man With A Gun.”

Normally, I would just sit back and let a grieving relative say their piece, but not in this case. Joeseph Culotti is either horribly misinformed or a complete and utter liar.

In all press reports out of Seattle, it was stated quite plainly from the police reports on the incident that the unnamed citizen resisted Daniel Culotti’s attacks with his hands AFTER Culotti picked him out of a crowd and screamed that he was going to kill him. It was only after the citizen was knocked to the ground and the attack did not cease that he pulled his weapon and used it to defend his life.

Which is where Joeseph gains either his “Ignorant” and/or “Liar” title.

In his letter, he claims that the unnamed citizen did not fight back at all and that his first instinct was to shoot.

Most normal people would respond by instinctively running or using their hands to defend themselves.

However, the shooter was not what we would think of as normal — he was carrying a gun and his immediate instinct was to shoot his attacker.

I’m waiting for the letter explaining why he never let his violently criminal nephew live with him in Toronto, where they have such wonderful mental heath care services, after Daniel Culotti burned down his mother’s house (which was an occupied as a daycare at the time) so that Daniel could get the care he needed.

We’ll never know whether Joeseph Culotti is an ignorant sod or a bald-faced liar, unless he Googles his name and stops by, at which time he can explain himself. But whatever his excuse, it is undeniable that he has dared to be stupid.
