Boo Freakin’ Hoo

All over the leftosphere there are hues and cries about this insipid report titled “The Worldwide Press Freedom Index” from the leftist media watchdog group “Reporters Without Borders” where they state that press freedom in America is rapidly declining.

We were apparently in 44th place last year, according to their methods, and started out only in 17th place in the first year of the report, 2002. This year, we’re in 53rd place, tied with Botswana, Croatia and Botswana.

They only cite four reasons as to why they have dropped the US down the list, but each of them will tell you exactly where their politics stand:

#1 – The Federal Courts, along with 17 states, do not recognize a reporters right to conceal their sources. When it comes down to the releasing of national security info, I would certainly hope not.

#2 – We are holding al-Jazeera camera guy Sami al-Haj at Gitmo. Al-Haj was arrested and detained by Pakistan while trying to cross from Pakistan to Afghanistan in December of 2001.

#3 – We are holding Bilal Hussein in a jail in Iraq. Bilal Hussein, in case you have forgotten, was captured along with two Iraq based terrorists, one of whom was a known leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. When he was taken into custody, he had pictures of himself with the muderers of Salvatore Santoro.

#4 – An SFIndymedia-loving amatuer videographer named Josh Wolf is in prison because he won’t release the video he holds that will help convict the anti-G8 conference protesters who stomped and severely injured the police officers trying to keep the event peaceful.

Gee, I wonder why “Reporters Without Borders” would be in support of letting two known terrorist supporters, along with a guy who enjoyed the hell out video taping cops getting beaten down, back onto the streets and the release of national security secrets?

OK, I don’t really wonder about it that much.

When the S.H.T.F., the role of the press will be forever altered. Generation and management of news will carry a MUCH higher price tag at that point, and I would guess that the MSM will not want to pay it.
