Will it have to come to this before Britons can bear arms again?

“This” being Islamist terrorists murdering teachers in secular schools.  It’s going on in southern Thailand.

“Of course teachers should not be carrying guns, but they need to protect themselves.” The head of the 15,000-strong Teachers’ Association says “we need them, or we’ll die.”

“A revolver is easy to carry and shoot,” explained Aree, a slight, bespectacled woman with a ponytail. “When I drive, I can hold the steering wheel with one hand and use the other hand to shoot.”

Nearby, Supat Sunanthakantharot, the shooting instructor, offered beginners a “short cut” — hold the gun in two hands, don’t shoot and blink at the same time, don’t be afraid of the bang.

“Focus. And remember, a gun can only protect you if you use it when you need it,” said Supat, as he passed around a crate of pistols for the teachers to try.

That’s not bad beginners’ advice.

They shot a 4th-grade teacher at the blackboard in front of the students! An Islamist mob clubbed an art teacher to death!

My stepdaughter was in Thailand immediately after the tsunami. She stayed with northern villagers and befriended a young Buddhist monk. She reported that a more peaceful, friendly, loving people could not be found. It’s awful to see a country so recently devastated by natural disaster visited with such human-induced insanity.

I’m usually heartened when other countries support individual citizens’ right to self-defense by bearing arms, but it’s sure sad to see it happen this way. Of course, when it starts happening in Britain, teachers won’t be able to shoot back.

  1. Mark Alger says:

Already happened — Dunblane. How many could have been saved if that teacher had been armed and trained to shoot?
