The Soundboard: The Secret Revealed

I’m happy to say that I was pleased to have stumped folks with the tunage post from Tuesday.

Senor FreddyBoomBoom used his “Google-Fu” to arrive at the correct answer last night:

The band was a late 60s Texas psychadeli-rock quartet called The Moving Sidewalks, and the guitarist in question was he of the boogie-ax, ZZTop mumble master, Billy Gibbons.

You can go here and read the Wiki file on the Sidewalks. It was during their time opening for the Jimi Hendrix Experience tour that Gibbons became one of Hendrix’s favorite guitarists.

I’ve had an original vinyl copy of both their album “Flash” and the compilation LP from Tantara records since my early high school years. After becoming frustrated at my failed attempts to transfer vinyl to digital on the cheap, I went looking to see if Tantara had gotten off their butts and started putting out CDs. Because bears DO crap in the woods, Tantara was sold to Comet Records who published the CD on their Akarma label and I swept up a pair of them off Amazon.

You can go here and grab one for yourself. I highly, highly recommend it.

The album is a mix of The Doors meets The YardBirds meets Hendrix meets The Greatful Dead and since I purchased the disk a couple months back I haven’t found one person who doesn’t like it.

But truly, the most cool bit of info about the whole thing is that Gibbons was only 17-18 years old when all of this music was recorded.

So your tunage for today will be a selection off of the original Flash album, with Gibbons putting on his best Hendrix (and it is a damn good one, if I do say so myself). Watch out for the twist in the middle.

I really cannot recommend the purchase of this album for your personal consumption highly enough.
