Just like Mr. Bill

I’m saying “Oh No!”

I was re-reading about Miller Brewing Company’s sponsorship of illegal alien protest marches and as I was getting caught up on all the happenings, including their lame excuses for doing it in the first place, I hit Malkin’s place to see the list of adult beverages Miller brews up.

I’d see it in other places but washed over it, something I’ll not do again after I saw the horror that awaited me on the list:

Henry Weinhard’s Classic Dark

When I cannot find a decent Porter (which unfortunately in not uncommon in this land of Ale and Herf drinkers) this is my favorite standby. It is a seasonal brew, only available between October and March. I buy it, I mean, I USED to buy it by the case, in moderate quantities near the end of March and store it in a cool, dark place for consumption during the off-season.

With it being September, I have only one case left left in the second fridge in the garage. I will drink it even more slowly than before and begin anew my quest for a Porter subsitute.

McMenamin’s Terminator Stout, if you can find it bottled. If not, take a growler or two home with you next time you’re down Portland way, Phil.

Then, of course, there is Acacia Brewery Swedish Chocolate Stout, although the brewer is on hiatus from brewing up these rich offerings due to his diabetes. You might be able to persuade the brewer to get back into action, though, and fire you up a couple of cases.

The beer is heavy but smooth, with a tiny pre-bite of bitter, which immediately gets overpowered by a rich, chocolaty flavor, with zero aftertaste (probably because all the ETOH has dulled the taste buds by then). The brew clocks 9.0, so you can only have one half liter at a time, so the stock will last.

Heads Up Brewery, Bremerton, WA. http://www.youbrew.com

Brew your own favorite Porter. I am a regular and you can buy, brew or sometimes order your favorites. Brew kegs, cases or my favorite, the 36oz bottle case. Ted Farmer has won 1st place in WA State’s Spring Brew Fest and the PNW Brew Fest. He is well known for his Oatmeal Stout and Belgian Triple “9mm ale”, lot of DOD up heya. I prefer their Russian Imperial Stout, on tap now, but they have some fantastic Porters come the cold season, as in now-ish.

Does Deschutes or Redhook not produce a decent porter? Alaskan Smoked Porter or something by Rogue Brewery might fit your bill. Theyre all in your general area too.

  5. Analog Kid says:

Yep. Deschutes makes their Black Butte Porter, but with the limited supplies the local stores carry, it can be sold out rather easily. I don’t know about a Redhook porter. I’ve never seen it in the stores that is can remember.

Sierra Nevada Porter is pretty tasty. Even available in backwoods Tennessee.

There are McMenamin’s pubs in Washington.

From this link you can see that the Olypic Club is in Centralia, and Dad Watson’s, McMenamin’s Queen Anne, and Six Arms are all in Seattle.

Does Lucky Labrador make it up to Washington? They’ve got both a stout and a porter.
