I’ve posted before about my fears that a Republican focus on the immigration issue — which I believe was a trap set by the Democrats — would be a net loser for the party in this fall’s elections.
Well, my fears have been assuaged! Looks as though Rove, et al., have come out swinging on the security issue and are actually doing pretty well with it. Bill Kristol thinks the Bush folks set a successful trap of their own.
I don’t know if you’ve been able to watch the President’s press conferences recently, but he’s doing as well on camera as I’ve ever seen him — going toe-to-toe with Lauer and winning wasn’t a one-time thing. Again, it’s about damn time.
It is interesting that this close to the midterm elections, he finally starts pulling a little of his “political capital”. I for one, am slightly disturbed that he hasn’t done anything more drastic. He has the house and senate for another two months, he has the majority of the conservative base behind him. He needs to get on with it and slap someone.
