I’ll be going out to Whidbey Island again this weekend to try my hand at knocking down bowling pins as fast as I am able. I’m planning on entering into the centerfire classes with my 1911 for the first time in longer than I care to mention and I may just put my .380ACP CZ-83 to the test as well if they’ll let me.
As for the rimfire class, I’ve gotten tired of not being able to hit an object an inch and a half wide and five inches tall from 25ft at speed so I went and bought an upgrade for my Ruger 22/45 Target Model.
New sights!
The front sight is from HIVIZ and is as near to trick an item as I have ever put on a pistol. The sight base is the same size as the stock one, but has two hoops which hold the colored fiber optic insert. It came with six different inserts; a green set and a red set, and each set of colors has three different diameters ranging from 3/32 to 1/8.
Rather cool, if I do say so myself.
But that is not all!
I also ordered a new rear sight insert from One Ragged Hole. It came with two inserts, one that is 7/32 in diameter and one that is 9/32.
I have put the big insert on the front and the small insert on the back. When the pin crosses in front of the sights, BANG, pin goes down.
Hopefully anyway, because I’ll be shooting Mr. Completely’s ‘Flies’ target for the pistol Postal Match later that day too.
CRAP! You are already beating me in iron sight class, and now you put on better sights?

Not to worry too much, Mike, I’ve only beaten you once so far and that was only because I employed the “When in doubt, empty the magazine” approach.
That wouldn’t be a tritium sight, would it?
Train like you’re gonna fight, and hopefully you won’t be pulling out a pistol that has tritium sights on it in a dark urban gunfight, because the bad guyz can see the tritium sights also, and then they have a decent idea of where your gourd is.
No tritium. Wait until your eyes accomodate to the low light, then go hunting with normal sights, and try to stalk around to get your target backlit.
