Actually the invocation of Godwin’s Law is an attempt to silence actual exploration of the true roots of the National Socialist German Workers Party, Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP, better known as the Nazis. Their ideological roots are in Socialism, a left wing collectivist ideology, which was a rival for the votes of the unemployed and unions workers of Germany on the model of the Black-shirts of Mussolini’s Socialist party.

The reason this sort of humor is so sad is that it is a reflection of the failure of the collectivists to examine their own shortcomings. Orwell was a Communist who realized that in fact to impose ‘fair’ required an elite few that would ‘judge’ creating a slippery slope to authoritarianism.
