Would they make up their damned minds

First the Dems whine, cry, bitch and moan about Club Gitmo. But now that there is a recordable vote on what to do with the terrorists there, they say let them stay?

Maybe they want us to let them loose in Havana?

In a 94-3 vote, senators passed a proposal authored by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell that states detainees, “including senior members of Al Qaeda, should not be released to American society” or moved to “facilities in American communities and neighborhoods.”

McConnell strongly backed the move after the vote.

“I can guarantee you that my constituents don’t want terrorists housed in their backyards in Ft. Knox, Ft. Wright or anywhere else in the Commonwealth,” he said. “I know I don’t.”

McConnell added: “The Senate has now overwhelmingly expressed its view that it’s better for the safety and security of the American people that terrorists at Guantanamo Bay are not moved into American communities. And it says to the American people that the United States Senate does not want these terrorists housed on our soil, in our communities.”

The amendment does express a view on whether Gitmo should remain open or closed — or mention moving alleged terrorists elsewhere.

We can’t keep them in Gitmo. We can’t move to another off-continent prison or it’ll just be the same BS except with a new name. We can’t bring them into the country. So what are we to do with them?

I’m sure the gentlemen at Paris Island could use some targets to train the recuits with.

Any other suggestions?

The Soundboard: Don’t Ask Edition

You really don’t want to know just how shitty my night was.

Let’s just assume that today’s tunage fits my current mood well.

RNS Quote of the Day: 07/19/07

Even more Ingrid

There is no rational basis for saying that a human being has special rights. A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. They’re all mammals.

Ingrid Newkirk - PETA’s President – Washington Times August 29, 1999

Oh really, then I suppose my request that these two little bitches-in-training be soaked in lighter fluid and set alight won’t shock Ingrid a bit.

And I hope that my request of, if found guilty, Michael Vick should be made to fight for his life in a pit, clarifies my position on dogfighting from yesterday.

They’re just figuring this out?

I could have told them this years ago.

Economists see aid to poor nations as ineffective

Aid to poor countries has little effect on economic growth, and policies that rely on such claims should be reexamined, two former International Monetary Fund economists wrote in a paper released this month.

“We find little evidence of a robust positive correlation between aid and growth,” wrote Raghuram Rajan, who stepped down as IMF chief economist at the end of 2006, and Arvind Subramanian, who left the IMF this year, said.

“We find little evidence that aid works better in better policy or institutional environments, or that certain kinds of aid work better than others,” they added.

“Our findings suggest that for aid to be effective in the future, the aid apparatus will have to be rethought.”

Yeah, something along the lines of “No aid until you get rid of your tin pot dicator.”

Of course, those on the left are going to scream that the people running the country are incosequential and that this is just another attempt by “The Joos” to not have to give any more moeny out.

That explosion in NYC yesterday

All Bush’s fault.

See Jonathon at the NPI Treefort

Regrettable accidents like this could be prevented if we spent our money on actual needs – like maintaining and enhancing our infrastructure instead of launching preemptive attacks against other countries and overextending the military force that is supposed to protect the people of this country, not incite more angry feelings toward America by serving as the de facto police force in another nation whose people do not want us there.

I never knew that DC was in charge of the steam plumbing system in NYC?

Or maybe I’m just mistaken in not believeing that NYC is paying for Afghanistan and Iraq?

Or, possibly, could it be that Jonathon is an idiot striken with BDS?

Anyone know

Where Hillary and Edwards were Sunday afternoon?

Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, who is a vegan, has been hospitalized with “severe” effects of apparent food poisoning.

The 60-year-old congressman from Cleveland became sick Sunday night while flying to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to address the national Longshoremen’s convention. He went ahead with the speech Monday but immediately returned home and was hospitalized in the Cleveland area.

They both agreed that there were too many cadidates at the debates. This is one way to thin the herd.

Don’t make me do it, Repubs

I’ve said it before: If NM Gov Richardson, ugly as all of his stances are with the exception of his 2A stance, gets the Dem nod for the ticket and Fred Thompson doesn’t get the nod from the Repubs, I’ll be voting for Richardson.

Yes, it is a long shot, but not all that long.

Richardson is tied with (D)Edwards in important New Hampshire and right up in there in also important Iowa.

I just wish Fred would make it official soon.

Real Life Hippies

Last November, upon request, I reposted my encounter with a local hippie and the discussion that ensued over one bumpersticker on the back of my truck.

This last weekend, Countertop posted about an encounter he had with one of his local hippies and her disagreement over a shirt he was wearing. Very good read, with one hell of a point and a definite “Must Read” if there ever was one.

I must thank Kevin Baker for sending Countertop over here, and for giving me the reason to repost my encounter last November.

Pushing you to the poll

Uncle has a poll up asking what you think will happen in the Parker case, which I have been remiss in reporting about how the DC dweebies have decided to all in on.

While I personally would like option #2, I voted for #3. It is the best pessamistically optimistic answer I could honestly choose.

Now you go choose.

Wrong, Yet Again

Last week I posted about how the environmentalists have been not just wrong, but deadly wrong, in the not too distant past, all the while claiming to be sole saviors of the Gaia.

Just to add to that bit, here is a news story about how they were again wrong in the less than distant past.

Think of the greatest environmental disaster in recent history. For many people, the Exxon Valdez spill in Prince William Sound comes to mind.

Three hundred seals, 2,800 sea otters, 250,000 sea birds and a host of other wildlife were killed by that spill, acknowledged Corrie Pitzer, an industrial psychologist from SAFEmap International in Vancouver. However, he added, 250,000 birds are killed by flying into windows every year.

“The cleanup cost was $2.1 billion, with a 50 percent reach,” Pitzer told an audience at a June 25 session of the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) 2007 Professional Development Conference in Orlando, Fla. “That means that only 50 percent of Prince William Sound was cleaned.”

Six years after the cleanup, a study was conducted to determine ecological recovery in the sound. What researchers found was that the areas that were not cleaned were in better shape – with more wildlife and cleaner water and soil – than the areas that had been cleaned. The chemicals and high-pressure washing used to “clean” the area had destroyed the ecosystem in some parts of Prince William Sound.

“The environmental disaster was the cleanup,” said Pitzer.

Pitzer said that Exxon knew that the cleanup would be prohibitively expensive and, in large part, pointless. But the company was forced – by public perception that cleaning the area was the best practice and, in part, by public outcry against the company – into the cleanup effort.

“That is the power of values, perceptions and beliefs in action,” said Pitzer.

In his presentation, Pitzer examined how values, beliefs and perceptions impact safety, and how our society’s perception of risk is changing. Traditional risk models:

  • Have rational values.
  • Promote achieving the best.
  • Believe that threats are unknown.
  • Believe that risks are ordinary.

The new risk model, which Pitzer calls a “risk society,” involves irrational values, argues for preventing the worst, believes that threats are known, focuses on guilt for not preventing risk and sensationalizes risk.

Waidaminnit!?! That perfectly describes the Global Warming Death Cult.

Of course, the high preists of the cult will most likely claim that Pitzer’s model fits a preconceived conclusion and is not actual science.

A case of projection if I’ve ever heard one.
