Feather Makes Contact On Side Of Skull

I fall over.

The NYT publishes N. Gregory Mankiw’s busting of common health care myths.

Broken clocks and such, I guess.

I wanna be thoroughly debunked!

In fact, I demand it!

Giuliani ran a campaign ad talking about his prostate cancer that compared rates of survival between the US and the UK.

As you can guess, this sent the left into a tizzy and the sycophants came out to herald the magic fairy dust of socialized medicine.

Local uber-leftist blogger, Goldy of HorsesAss, posted about TPM’s Greg Sargent yelling at the MSM for parroting Giuliani’s “Lie”. I followed that link to the TPM blog The Horse’s Mouth.

I may have switched the ends of the horse, but the smell was the same. Sargent links to both an Ezra Klein piece and one from an ABC News blogger, Rick Klein, each of which he claims “thoroughly debunk” Giuliani’s numbers.

Both of which smell exactly like the horse.

Ezra Klein uses the following “logic” (if you want to call it that) to “thoroughly debunk” the numbers. If I may paraphrase:
“We have better screening processes, so we find more prostrate cancers than other countries, btu that skews our statistics up and makes us look better than other countries even though were not because the government doesn’t pay for the screenings.”

So once again, America falls into the trap of being too successful at fighting disease. We’re so good at what we do that it isn’t fair to say that we save more lives because some of the cancers we find aren’t yet life threatening.

Yes, read that last sentence again. Ezra has to have a screw loose to believe that finding not yet life threatening cancers is a bad thing.

And you all probably thought I was callous.

The ABC News blog post by Rick Klein doesn’t have any of the fancy graphs that Ezra has, which is strange when you compare budgets. But what it does have is one of the leading proponents of socialized medicine not corresponding with the headline Rick Klein chose to use.

Don McCanne, a senior health policy fellow at Physicians for a National Health Program, conceded that the five-year survival rate for cancer diagnoses is higher in the United States than in many countries that have single-payer systems, though the disparity is not as great as Giuliani claims in his ad.

But he said that any such comparison is flawed, since it fails to take into account the additional investment in cancer education and screening in the United States. Much of the gap would be closed if other countries invested similar sums in catching cancer early.

So now the excuse for Giuliani’s numbers being right is that America’s free market system spends the extra money in education and screening.

I don’t know about you, but if I wanted my cancer found early and removed, I’d rather spend more money. The folks who want to kill people with socialized medicine are always complaining that America spends nearly twice as much as any other country on health care. Personally, I think that if that extra spending means better survival rates, I’m willing to pay it.
Apparently, there are two Kleins who would rather that Americans die at a higher rate and die with more moeny in the bank.

Five will get you ten that they’re both proponents of the Death Tax too.

What’s up with the double standard, Massachusetts?

Last week, a number of the gun blogs linked to this piece about how in 2000, the number of accidental deaths in the US caused by firearms topped only accidental deaths by poison gases.

The same day I read that one I heard something on the news that had me working the search-fu to find this story

Addicts to receive overdose antidote

State health authorities will start supplying addicts next month with a kit containing two doses of a medication that can reverse a potentially lethal overdose within minutes, hoping to reverse a tide of heroin deaths sweeping Massachusetts
The initiative by the Department of Public Health mirrors a similar project in Boston, where at least 66 overdoses have been reversed since the program began a year ago.

State Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach, who introduced the Narcan program while leading Boston’s health agency, said the results are so impressive that he wants to expand it to four areas of the state grappling with heroin epidemics. That drug and other opiates killed 544 people in Massachusetts in 2005, more than double the number felled by firearms.

Apparently, if you ask MA government officials, there is an epidemic of gun violence so large that they are considering even more legislation against lawful firearms owners and are still restricting the number of concealed carry permits to folks who have never gotten so much as a traffic ticket.

But these same individuals who fear a citizen being able to defend themselves are willing to help a junkie survive to break the law again.

As reported above, more than twice the number of people were killed by heroin in 2005 than were killed by firearms, yet this does not garner the same hysteria an inanimate tool does? More than twice an epidemic is not an epidemic? An “epidemic of firearms related deaths” means that law-abiding citizens have to live with fewer protections for their lives, but more than twice that number of people dying from actions that broke laws means sheltering the law-breakers from having to face the penatlies of their actions?
I lived in Seattle for far too long to care more than a squirt of piss about a junkie I’m not related to, but even I know that if a person steps forward and admits to being one, you arrest them and let them detox in solitary.

Forget all the “but it is their choice to do this to themselves” libertarian bullshit. Dealing and possessing heroin is currently against the law and our government is the one charged with enforcing the laws. Anyone willing to ignore a drug law is no more justified in doing so than someone who wants to ignore an immigration law. Take the laws off the books, don’t take the books away from the laws.

One standard is plenty for everybody, thanks.

Now that’s denial!

I’m expecting the excuse “Well, at least they are paying the child prostitutes” any day now.

The UN is sending home more than 100 of the 950 Sri Lankan peacekeepers in Haiti, accusing them of sexual abuse, including with underage girls.

The UN said the troops had paid for sex and that some of the girls were minors.

UN peacekeepers have been involved in a series of sex-abuse scandals, including this year in Ivory Coast, where 800 were suspended.

And again, the organization with a multitude of sexual abusers gets away with nary a slap on the wrist from the “intellectuals”. The UN gets to keep their hands clean in the minds of those who wish for a world police force to keep peace at any cost through forked-tongue policies like this.

The organisation said it had a “zero tolerance” policy but it was up to the supplying nations to discipline troops.

And when you treat with third-world nations like they’re not third-world nations you don’t exactly get the cream of the crop. Which is exactly the excuse you’ll get from the “intellectuals” when it is discovered that the UN has left dozens, if not hundreds, of Abu Ghraib prisons around the planet. Only they’re not practicing with the dogs barking and fake torture.

The only reason you don’t know about these is that the folks running them can’t afford digital cameras.

A 2005 UN report suggested a central disciplining policy but member nations could not agree.

If you want debate to the point of inaction, just call the boys in powder blue!

For years I had to listen to the daily newsheads yak about the Catholic Church and their scandals involving the church rotating child molesters around and hoping the Trinity would cure the “sick” priests.

But whenever something pops up about the UN and child sex pops up it’ll get one mention and then go away with few, if any, mentions of past horrors. I guess the MSM thinks that if one standard is good, two must be better.

Or maybe they just can’t see the world socialism promoted by the UN as a religion?

It’s Been Covered

But I just love the intro and wanted to post it here

The debate is over. A consensus has been reached. On global warming? No, on how Democrats are favored on television, radio and in the newspapers.

That is the opening line of a post at Investors Business Daily about the joint survey by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy.

So when some rat’s ass leftist starts going off about the right-wing controlled media, you can just remind them that the debate IS over and the consensus of every non-partisan group to study the topic is that the MSM loves the Democrats so much it should just marry them.

You can flip the “Denier” title on them too, if you so choose. I’ve lost count at howmany times I’ve had it thrown my way.

Even white boys got to shout

Same theme as yesterday, just in reverse order.

And even though he didn’t get the Advisor job for this video (as you can plainly see, the talent is not up to John Thomas Booty’s standards), the Professor was still very proud of Mr. Adkins for bringing this topic out into the open again.

That was no problem for John Thomas.

Good heavens, how I’m already missing that man.
