If you know anyone with an Oregon CCW

It seems that a newspaper in Medford, OR (The Mail Tribune) wanted to publish the personal information of all Oregon CCW holders.

Being the good guy that he is, the Washington County Sheriff, Rob Gordon, told them to go piss up a rope. Quite probably a lot nicer than that too.

But the newspaper creeps weren’t satisfied and they found a judge who was hateful enough to rule against the Sheriff, stating that unless the CCW holder had specifically and in writing stated that they wanted the permit for “Security Reasons”,then there is no reason to believe that the CCW holder wanted their information kept private and that the Sheriff was obliged to release the names to the public.

Again, being the good guy that he is, Sheriff Gordon is mailing letters to CCW holders within his jurisdiction, relaying what the judge said. Included with the letter is a simple Y/N form and instructions on how to fill it out to keep their information private.

Again, if you know a CCW holder in Oregon, le tthem know that unless they’re in Washington County, OR, that they have to contact their issuing agency and let them know, specifically and in writing, that they have their CCW for “Security Reasons”.

And if you have a moment, I’m pretty sure that calling the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and voicing your support for Sheriff Rob Gordon would be appreciated.

Welcome to the club

Better late than never. I guess.

The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are right on both counts.

No kidding. Really?

Maybe if you had taken your poll a month ago, we wouldn’t have had to suffer through the final month of your paper’s knob polishing of The Lightworker.

My assistant, Jean Hwang, and I have been examining Post coverage since Nov. 11 of last year on issues, voters, fund raising, the candidates’ backgrounds and horse-race stories on tactics, strategy and consultants. We also have looked at photos and Page 1 stories since Obama captured the nomination June 4.

The count was lopsided, with 1,295 horse-race stories and 594 issues stories. The Post was deficient in stories that reported more than the two candidates trading jabs; readers needed articles, going back to the primaries, comparing their positions with outside experts’ views. There were no broad stories on energy or science policy, and there were few on religion issues.

Navel gazing at its finest folks. Only at the WaPo.

Oh, and notice that nowhere in the article did any one say they would stop the laudatory printings any time soon.

We discussed a Blogmeet in December, but it was discussed that with the holiday season coming up, getting a date that worked for everyone would be rather difficult. So if you’d like to join us in the future keep the 18th and/or the 25th of January clear for an Inagural bloggmeet.

I forgot to bring up a topic at last night’s gathering. So watch here tomorrow. In the meantime, read up on the Protestant Reformation. It’ll be slightly relevant.

Head Up Ass

Last night at the Blogmeet I made mention that applications for CCW permits counted in per-week totals for people living within Seattle doubled between September and November, and then doubled that number again just last week.

Foolishly, I stated that I hoped that would dampen Nickel’s wish to violate the civil rights of citizens within his feifdom.

Foolishly, because it seems that not even a newly pissed off chunk of the electorate will stop him

An unequivocal “no” from the state Attorney General’s Office is often enough to shoot down a city proposal.

Not so with a move by Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to ban legally permitted handguns from city-owned parks and buildings, an effort that, if successful, could shatter a 47-year-old state prohibition against cities’ regulation of firearms.

The Mayor’s Office continues to build a case for the ban despite an Oct. 14 opinion issued by Attorney General Rob McKenna’s office arguing that the city cannot pre-empt state gun law. The mayor hopes to introduce an administrative order next month.

This will be interesting what with the make up of the state courts and having been reigned over by Democrat Governors for the past 23 years.

But with smaller towns in the very red part of the state wishing to ditch the onerous environmental laws, I don’t see them putting pre-emtion aside just yet.

I’d say that it’s just par for the course

Michael Duffy writes of surprise in the Sydney Morning Herald

Last month I witnessed something shocking. Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was giving a talk at the University of NSW. The talk was accompanied by a slide presentation, and the most important graph showed average global temperatures. For the past decade it represented temperatures climbing sharply.

As this was shown on the screen, Pachauri told his large audience: “We’re at a stage where warming is taking place at a much faster rate [than before]”.

Now, this is completely wrong. For most of the past seven years, those temperatures have actually been on a plateau. For the past year, there’s been a sharp cooling. These are facts, not opinion: the major sources of these figures, such as the Hadley Centre in Britain, agree on what has happened, and you can check for yourself by going to their websites. Sure, interpretations of the significance of this halt in global warming vary greatly, but the facts are clear.

So it’s disturbing that Rajendra Pachauri’s presentation was so erroneous, and would have misled everyone in the audience unaware of the real situation. This was particularly so because he was giving the talk on the occasion of receiving an honorary science degree from the university.

Honorary Degrees in the hard sciences should be illegal. Even the freaks at Nobel knew they could only get away with giving The Goracle their trinket for his junk science if it was the abstract “Peace” award. The scientific community would have whipped out the torches and pitchforks if they tried to juice him with an actual science prize.

Hell, it’s too bad they didn’t though. It might have been the end of the Global Warming Death Cult if they had.
