The perfect explanation. Anytime anyone asks why they’re called that, just send them to this link.
You know Larry Elder: the African-American, Californian, libertarian, popular radio host and firebrand. He’s been around for a while, and he’s a solid presence on the California media-and-politics scene. Elder is a serious name and presence among California Republicans. He just wrapped up his radio show. “Why,†you might ask, “doesn’t Larry Elder run for the Senate?â€
There is an answer accorinding to many of Elder’s friends at the Republican Convention — Senator Cornyn and the NRSC told him not to.
Here’s the story that is circulating at the convention: Back in the spring, Elder went to Washington to sit down with John Cornyn and the NRSC, and ask for their support for a bid for U.S. Senate against Barbara Boxer. Cornyn and the NRSC told him the following:
- If Elder chose to run, they would not support him.
- The NRSC was already committed to supporting Carly Fiorina
- The NRSC expected Fiorina to lose against Boxer, but expected her to tie up Democrat resources in the meantime.
So Larry Elder came back to California and did not run. You know the rest: he’s watched the Fiorina campaign move from crisis to crisis (failure to vote, Iran sales, revelation of no self-funding, no CRP attendance, this Rasmussen poll, that website, etc.), and feeling increasingly frustrated. It’s probably too late for him to enter and Larry is hot under the collar that Cornyn gave him such terrible advice. So he’s talking to his friends — and his friends are talking to us — and I’m talking to you.
How incompetent is this? The NRSC actually told a popular African-American with statewide name recognition to NOT run? Last I checked, our party isn’t overflowing with those.
Oh, and the NRSC expects Carly Fiorina to lose to Barbara Boxer — and they told a talk radio host this?
Mr. Elder is great. I used to get to hear his replay in the wee hours of the AM here in Seattle and loved damn near every minute of it.
I remember when he first became a Republican. He had avoided becoming a member of any party for many years so that callers and guests of opposing views couldn’t use it as a straw man or a cudgel against him. He finally broke down and decided that the only party that could suit the needs of fiscally conservative Americans was the Republican Party and the only way to make the necessary changes to the party happen was to join the organization and work on those changes from the inside.
He caught so much hell and possibly lost more than a few listeners from the more strict Libertarian sect, but he was sure he was right and was working the plan.
And I think that is a great portion of the reason the NRSC picked Fiorina over Elder: They know that if she did ever win, she’d be a nice little typecast Repub who wouldn’t go rocking any boats.
And that Elder would be a little rowdy and carry no water that wasn’t his own.
And because they told him to stand back and let her lose on purpose, is why they are called The Stupid Party.
And we’ll finish off September with this quote, possibly from a new student at UC Berkeley who didn’t get included in this video.
(337): I feel like I am becoming dumber sitting here in class than I would be sitting on the couch smoking weed.
Run kid, run! Find yourself a nice private college where patchouli isn’t a “lifestyle statement”.
So the Daily Mail has come out with the results of some sorry little survey they took about which nationality’s men are the Best/Worst in the sack.
And the US was listed as the fifth worst.
Because we’re too rough.
OK, all European women, listen up: Just like when Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins planted that flag on the moon, that raised handprint welt on your ass that can be seen through your tights is there to tell others were we’ve been. The itch in that same spot that comes later that afternoon is there to remind you to call us back that evening.
It’s the spirit of the explorer bred into all decent and thoughtful American men that makes us like that. Don’t question it. All you have to do is enjoy it.
Not a lot of time today. We’re working on getting a re-fi with our original mortgage company.
Hopefully, this will get us away from Citigroup and drop at least a full point off our interest rate, saving us $150 a month and possibly six figures in interest over the life of the loan (if I were to let it go that long). Since we’re doing it within a year of the original closing, there is no appraisal and all the BS that goes along with it.
It was nice to see that our broker is thinking of us (though I know that part of it is because she needs to make a few bucks in this market).
Anyway, I leave you with The 10 Cannots, which have been misattributed to Abraham Lincoln over the past century or so, but he was not quite this much of a federalist (by a long shot).
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

I now have a solution for my confused doctor when she tells me that if my blood pressure were any lower I’d be dead.
It is The Wife’s exercise routine.
A study by German scientists showed that 10 minutes a day of ogling women’s breasts by men was as good at warding off heart disease, high blood pressure and stress as 30 minutes of aerobic exercise.
Weatherby found that a mere 10-minutes of staring at well-endowed females is roughly the equivalent of a 30-minute aerobics workout, because sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves circulation…She added:
“Our study indicates that engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of a stroke and a heart attack in half. We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life four to five years.â€
David may live past 100, from what I understand.
In California, saying things like this will get you re-elected by a wide margin!
FEINSTEIN: Well, as you know, I’m one that believes very strongly Guantanamo should be closed, and I believe it can be done.
I’m also one that’s somewhat familiar with the prison structure in the United States. And I know that there are maximum security prisons from which no one escapes in the United States, which are isolated from neighborhoods.
And no one is going to put these people in anyone’s neighborhood, as some have tried to say.
WALLACE: So you’ll be OK with having some of these detainees in California?
FEINSTEIN: Yes. In a maximum security prison, I don’t worry about it, provided the prison is set up to accommodate it, and I believe we have facilities that are.
A future conversation in the California Correctional System:
Guard: Hey, Manson. Here’s your new cell mate, Muhammad. You two should get along great! He wants to kill whitey too.
Manson: Helter Skelter?
Muhammad: Sim salah bim, saheeb.
Here is was all set to post up a Dave Barry quote with accompanying video of how a university speech fascist got all offended by it, and then I discovered that Kevin Baker beat me to it.
(grumbles)
Hit that link and watch the video his link goes to. Try not to have too many throwable objects lying about.
Everyone knows that if it is bad for liberty and happens in Europe, it’ll make it’s way here via the euro worshiping left. It usually takes a while. Not this time.
I read this story over at CCinZÂ
Two working mothers have been banned from looking after each other’s toddlers because they are not registered childminders.
The close friends’ private arrangement had let them both return to part-time jobs at the same company.
However, a whistleblower reported them to the education watchdog Ofsted and it found their informal deal broke the law.
This was because little-known rules say friends cannot gain a ‘reward’ by looking after a child for more than two hours outside the child’s home without agreeing to a number of checks including one from the Criminal Records Bureau.
Although the mothers never paid each other, their job-sharing deal was judged to be a ‘reward’. Campaigners fear thousands of working families could be innocently breaking the rules by relying on close friends for informal childcare.
I told myself that it’d be less than a year before the Obamatons came out with “watching your neighbor’s children is taking jobs away from daycare workers”.
However, following my reading of this post at Reason, it appears America had the idea first!
A West Michigan woman says the state is threatening her with fines and possibly jail time for babysitting her neighbors’ children.
Lisa Snyder of Middleville says her neighborhood school bus stop is right in front of her home. It arrives after her neighbors need to be at work, so she watches three of their children for 15-40 minutes until the bus comes.
The Department of Human Services received a complaint that Snyder was operating an illegal child care home. DHS contacted Snyder and told her to get licensed, stop watching her neighbors’ kids, or face the consequences.
“It’s ridiculous.” says Snyder. “We are friends helping friends!” She added that she accepts no money for babysitting.
USA! USA! USA!
Oh, wait.
When government is broke, everything is for sale. Even your information.
An advertising campaign in the UK began using automated number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras to identify passing vehicles and create personalized advertisements. The motor oil giant Castrol UK Limited yesterday activated a set of five electronic billboards in London that flash an image of the exact type of Castrol-brand motor oil appropriate for the nearest vehicle.
“The right oil for your car is: Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1,” the advertisement reads for eight seconds as a Jaguar with the license plate 1DFL drives past.
The roadside digital billboards, seventeen feet wide and eight feet high, are owned by Clear Channel Outdoor. Castrol’s campaign added the license scanning technology which ties into the official UK Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) database. The agency provides private registration information to just about any company willing to pay the desired fee.
They say that “the campaign” does not store any information about which vehicles pass where, but computers only forget in two ways:
1 – Destruction, or
2 – When someone tells them to do so (and even then, that’s iffy).
You’ll remember the brouhaha during “Cash for Clunkers” about certain PC’s becoming subject to government inspection/possible confiscation. And if you think that the TIA supporters at the DVLA won’t be asking for certain logs, I’ve got some government run health care to give you that won’t cost taxpayers a dime.
