Apparently there is some whining going on about the possibility of Angelina Jolie being cast to play Cleopatra in an upcoming flick.
Counting Cats has his way with them.
What part of Cleopatra was Greek is so difficult to understand?
Lets get it straight – Cleo (strictly Cleopatra VII) was the last of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a bunch of Hellenes who took the country over after Alexander got his and the empire split, and she spoke Greek at home. In fact, Cleopatra, as well as being the last of the Ptolemys, is reputed to be the first of them to even bother learning Egyptian.
As for the Egyptians? They were bloody North Africans you idiots, not sub Saharans. You want to know what ancient Egyptians looked like? They looked like their direct descendents, the Copts, who, funnily enough, look a lot like everyone else in Egypt today.
Cue an outraged Jessie Jackson and an intolerant Al Sharpton in 5..4…3…2…
So far this year, the Washington citizenry has, for all intents and purposes, endorsed two separate solutions in the form of Citizen Initiatives to rid ourselves of the state government’s monopoly on liquor sales.
But when the votes get counted in November, if both of them pass, which one will be declared the victor?
The main difference between the two initiatives is that 1100 would not include any price controls and would make the cost of liquor licenses the same for both small and large retailers; 1105 would include some price controls and would require large retailers to pay more for licenses.
Assuming both measures make it onto the November ballot, it’s unclear what the implications will be if both of the two conflicting proposals win. “That’s the million-dollar question,†says I-1105 spokeswoman Charla Neuman. Dan Sytman, a spokesman for state attorney general Rob McKenna, has not yet gotten back to PubliCola about which law will take precedence if both pass.
If they both pass, I would put my money on the one backed up by the “large retailer” cash being declared the winner. So long as I don’t have to deal with the state and their horrible lack of selection when I buy my spirits, I don’t care either way.
Knowing your predators should mean that you’re hoping to eliminate them. This sounds as though they’re just hoping to catch enough to placate the local populace.
Acting Amsterdam mayor Lodewijk Asscher is considering using police offcers posing as Jews in an attempt to stamp out anti-semitic violence, the Parool reports on Monday.
A spokesman said the suggestion, made last week by Labour MP Ahmed Marcouch, fits in with Asscher’s decision to take unorthodox measures to try to reduce verbal and physical attacks on Jews in the capital.
Secret tv recordings by the Jewish broadcasting company Joodse Omroep broadcast on Sunday showed young men shouting and making Nazi salutes at a rabbi when he visited different areas of the city.
The city’s police already use people posing as pensioners and gay men in an effort to catch muggers and gay-bashers.
I guess that I should just be glad they aren’t using actual Jews as bait.
Typical of the Obama Administration
The panel appointed by President Barack Obama to investigate the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is short on technical expertise but long on talking publicly about “America’s addiction to oil.” One member has blogged about it regularly.
Only one of the seven commissioners, the dean of Harvard’s engineering and applied sciences school, has a prominent engineering background — but it’s in optics and physics. Another is an environmental scientist with expertise in coastal areas and the after-effects of oil spills. Both are praised by other scientists.
The five other commissioners are experts in policy and management.
The White House said the commission will focus on the government’s “too cozy” relationship with the oil industry. A presidential spokesman said panel members will “consult the best minds and subject matter experts” as they do their work.
The commission has yet to meet, yet some panel members had made their views known.
They won’t be able to put their finger on what went wrong, but that won’t stop them from pointing out who to blame.
As is also typical of the Obama Administration, “America” will near the top of the list.

Not after this weekend report from Siun of the Israel-hating FireDogLake blog
Reminding us that “in 1984, a picket line and refusal to unload cargo of a ship carrying South African cargo was a key event in mobilizing the anti-apartheid movement worldwide,†more than 500 activists (with some estimates of 1,000) blocked the unloading of an Israeli flagged ship yesterday in Oakland harbor.
Answering a call from the Palestinian Trade Union Movement for “dockworkers’ unions worldwide to block Israeli maritime trade in response to Israel’s massacre of humanitarian relief workers and activists aboard the Freedom Flotilla, until Israel complies with international law and ends its illegal blockade of Gaza,†California activists picketed the berth of the Israeli ship.
Actually not so much.
You see, the Israeli ship arrived 12 hours later. They were actually blockading a Chinese cargo ship.
Some 500 anti-Israel protesters arrived at the Oakland, California port early Sunday morning, hoping to block an Israeli ship from unloading its cargo. However, the ship did not arrive, and the crowd prevented workers from unloading a Chinese ship instead.
The protesters say they were protesting the recent Israel-Turkey flotilla incident, though they displayed great ignorance about what actually happened; one of them even compared barely armed Israeli Defense Forces troops with Somali pirates.
‘);} else {document.write(‘
‘); sZones+=”,17″;sIDs+=”,InContentAd”}Being ones to not really care if they work or not, because they get paid anyway, the Oakland Longshoreman’s union decided to not work while the protesters were there.
As workers refused to cross their picket line, an arbitrator was called in to decide whether work would go on or not – and citing possible safety concerns, the unloading of the ZIM was halted for the morning shifts and then again for the afternoon shifts. This allowed the activists to block the unloading for 24 hours – their goal – and deliver the message that Israel will face growing difficulties internationally – including in the US – if it does not end its blockade.
Back in the real world, they still actually only blocked the unloading of the Chinese ship. As the Israeli ship docked too late to get unloaded.
The Israeli ship arrived only at 6 PM, more than 12 hours after the protesters, but by that time most of the latter had left. The local union decided not to order night shift workers to unload the Israeli ship, and it will be unloaded sometime on Monday.
If you’re too stupid to notice the difference between Chinese characters and Hebrew, congratulations! You’re dumb enough to hate Israel!
And by “transparent”, I mean that she sees the possibility of her reign ending and is clearly trying to shovel pork to those who would fund her and her party’s campaigns as fast as possible.
And for that, she is willing to kick the elderly to the curb.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi struck a combative tone tonight, rejecting the Medicare “doc fix” passed hastily through the Senate Friday until Senate Republicans allow a vote on jobs measures that have passed through the House.
“I see no reason to pass this inadequate bill until we see jobs legislation coming out of the Senate,” said Pelosi in a statement. “House Democrats are saying to Republicans in the Senate: Show us the jobs! (exclamation mark hers)”
Her statement, along with Senate Republicans’ unwillingness to pass any legislation that adds to the debt, means that Medicare doctors can expect a 21 percent pay cut when claims that have been held for two weeks start to be processed by Medicare’s government administrator on Monday.
The “jobs” bill is simply more pork and “stimulus” that is currently being handed out at double the rate in Democratic counties as it is in Republican counties.
And can the “Doc Fix” wait?
The number of doctors refusing new Medicare patients because of low government payment rates is setting a new high, just six months before millions of Baby Boomers begin enrolling in the government health care program.
Recent surveys by national and state medical societies have found more doctors limiting Medicare patients, partly because Congress has failed to stop an automatic 21% cut in payments that doctors already regard as too low. The cut went into effect Friday, even as the Senate approved a six-month reprieve. The House has approved a different bill.
– The American Academy of Family Physicians says 13% of respondents didn’t participate in Medicare last year, up from 8% in 2008 and 6% in 2004.
– The American Osteopathic Association says 15% of its members don’t participate in Medicare and 19% don’t accept new Medicare patients. If the cut is not reversed, it says, the numbers will double.
– The American Medical Association says 17% of more than 9,000 doctors surveyed restrict the number of Medicare patients in their practice. Among primary care physicians, the rate is 31%.
The federal health insurance program for seniors paid doctors on average 78% of what private insurers paid in 2008.
But don’t worry, Obamacare won’t treat average citizens with this blatant disregard.
Oh, did I say “average citizens”? I meant “average dead citizens”.
That’s where I’m at.
The good news that this quarter is compressed into only eight weeks, which, if I get done on time, will give me four weeks off between Summer and Fall Quarters. However, if I get done early, like I have been, maybe five or six weeks.
BTW, transcripts came out over the weekend. This is what getting done early will get you…
Only a 3.95GPA.
