Death is part of their religion

As in “A human death is preferable to that of a fish (aka: River Kitten)”

This is a guest post from one of our regular commenters, Memory Vault. He’s understandably upset about the Australian floods, which may have claimed more than 70 lives. But what really upsets him is that this disaster could have been prevented. He blames green campaigners so wedded to their ideology they never stop to consider the human consequences. It is to them his bitter letter is addressed.

Andrew Bolt has similarly harsh words for Australia’s eco nuts. Were it not for the actions of Environment Minister Peter Garrett, for example, the Queensland town of Gympie would not now be underwater. Unfortunately, Garrett took it upon himself to block the proposed dam that would have prevented it.

Never let them claim that their policies and actions have never hurt anyone.

In Soviet Russia

Government cuts you!

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed on Monday a decree reducing the number of federal officials by 20% until 2013, the Kremlin press service said.

According to the decree, the number of federal officials is to be reduced by 5% in 2011 and 2012 and then by 10% in 2013.

The number of federal officials in Russia almost doubled in the past five years from around 600,000 in 2005 to over 1.1 million in 2010.

The decree follows the instruction made by Medvedev in June. The measure could save up to 40 billion rubles ($1.3 billion) out of the Russian federal budget.

As Monty Pelerin said, it appears that the Russian understand economics better than the Obama Administration.

RNS Quote of the Day: 01/13/11

Boo!

Ah. Yes. The dreaded libertarians. If they get into power they want the government to leave the people alone. Despicable.

We should be glad that True Conservativesâ„¢ want to replace the meddling left (the fount of all evil) with the meddling right (the home of all that is good).

The cry of the Conservative is “if only we were in power”.

The cry of the libertarian is “if only the government had less power.”

Fight! Fight! Fight!

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of Rep. Pete King’s dumb idea of banning the possession of privately owned firearms within 1000 feet of a “government official”.

While the rightosphere and, of course, the gunosphere, stand firmly against any law this stupid, the leftosphere is currently at odds with each other over the idea.

David Dayen at FDL is not liking it

Peter King’s Outlandish Gun Control Proposal

But Crooks and Liars owner/oprtator, John Amato thinks King has struck gold

Has Rep. Peter King actually come up with a decent idea on gun control?

Thankfully, Speaker Boehner has said no dice to anything even remotely anti-2nd Amendment.

Let us all hope his spine stays intact.

Cue the Outrage

In 5, 4, 3, 2, ……

Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-S.C.) health care-era “you lie” interruption of President Obama is now reportedly being commemorated with a place on a new, limited edition line of assault rifle (sic) components.

The Columbia Free Times reports that the words are being engraved on a series of lower receivers manufactured for popular AR-15 assault rifles(sic). Lower receivers are one of the primary pieces of the firearms.

“Palmetto State Armory would like to honor our esteemed congressman Joe Wilson with the release of our new ‘You Lie’ AR-15 lower receiver,” the weapon manufacturer’s site writes in the product description. “Only 999 of these will be produced, get yours before they are gone!”

Wilson caused a commotion in September of 2009 when he disrupted a key health care speech by Obama in which the president claimed that the impending health care reform legislation wouldn’t provide coverage for undocumented immigrants.

While I won’t be buying one myself, I fully support the idea. Especially if it pisses off the bigots.

Does this creep anyone else out a bit?

It seems that when a person goes on a shooting rampage, it is very common for the weapon(s) in question to become a best seller for a little while.

Is this true? And if so, exactly who thinks, after seeing such a tragedy, thinks it’s a great time to go get that specific model? What kind of reasoning is happening here? Are these people thinking, “Holy crap, that dude just capped 20 people with a Glock! I gotta get me one of those right effing now!”?

I could understand gun sales going up over fears of new laws/bans, but wouldn’t that increase sales over a wide range of weapons?

And why shouldn’t they?

So AZ just passed a bill in record time that would limit the ability of the Westboro Batshit Church to protest the funerals of the people killed in Tucson, and I for one am aghast at this attempt to prevent an organization from dancing in the blood of these victims. I mean, every other mouthpiece, from the Sheriff on up, who could get some airtime has been spinning this to their political advantage, why can’t the crazies from Kansas?

(PS for the satirically challenged, I’m actually OK with the law. The 1st amendment guarantees you won’t go to jail for what you say, it does not, however, guarantee you a platform of your choosing)
