If you were able to get your hands on large quantities of Soviet archives and get paid to decipher/translate and publish them, would you jump at the opportunity?

I know I would.

Unfortunately, not many folks who think the Soviet Union was an actual “Evil Empire” work in that field.

Subsequently, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of pages of the above named archives are laying fallow in defector’s spare rooms untouched, unread and unpublished because those who can don’t want to and those who want to don’t have the resources.

In a press release issued Thursday, Sodexo USA announced that the company has filed a civil lawsuit against the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) under the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act., accusing the union of engaging in an “illegal campaign of extortion.” The lawsuit representing Sodexo is Hunton & Williams – the same firm SEIU and its allies have accused of launching a “dirty tricks” campaign against them in retaliation for their anti-Chamber of Commerce campaigns.

Sodexo USA has filed the lawsuit in an attempt to halt the over-the-top harassment from SEIU, alleging that many of the acts are very serious and outside of the normal realm of union tactics, including acts of “blackmail, vandalism, trespass, harassment, and lobbying law violations designed to steer business away from Sodexo USA and harm the company.”

Aside from some of its usual corporate smear campaign tactics, certain organizers in the SEIU subscribed to some especially nasty, and frankly repulsive, tactics.

Yes, I know that RICO suits are generally not considered all that great; Kind of the thing you toss at an entity when nothing else will do. But this looks like a classic case of racketeering to this layman.

“We are locked down due to Tornado warning. Everything is offline.”

WTF? We don’t get those here. Tornados terrify me; earthquakes you can prepare for….

Anal Sex and God’s Will

I’m not one, but for those readers who are believers, y’all may find this sex-positive site useful.

It’s chock-full of thoughtful discussions of Christian anal and oral sex, Viagra usage, masturbation (God’s gift to us!) and of course threesomes, BDSM, and Fisting in the Christian marriage. For example:

The sex act called fisting is a source of confusion and misconceptions for many Christians. This is unfortunate, because it means that many Christian men and women are depriving themselves of what could be the most spiritual sexual experience of their lives.

I’ve always figured that logically, marriage freed Christian couples to engage in all sorts of consensual naughtiness with each other, in the same way that a Bullet Button on my California AR-15 lets me festoon it with Evil Features like pistol grips, collapsible stocks, etc…. This site seems to be operating on the same general principle, but with theological quotes to back it up.

They are, and the sheer gall of this makes me sick, creating a $4M fund for small family farmers to get low interest loans! I can not believe those greedy bastards aren’t just handing out grants instead, or making the loans 0% interest (4%-9% is just criminal!). They probably figure to make billions of dollars off of the backs of those poor farmers!

Homo Americanus

Victor Davis Hanson has a great piece out yesterday, part of which compares “The Efficiency of Complexity Versus the Flexibility of De-centralization.” It is a pretty good comparison of the “self-reliant, highly individualist” American society versus the “high density, central planning, mass transit, demographic uniformity, and a culture of mutual dependence” of Japan, specifically how centralization is dangerous when disasters (natural or man-caused) occur. We have our share of centralization as well, but America is clearly divided 50/50 on this issue. Thank God that our cause is making headway.

I take a lot of risk working in a major urban area that could face any number of disasters, especially when my commute is over 30 miles. I heard an earthquake “expert” has put out that there is a 46% chance of a 9.0 or greater quake hitting the Pacific NW in the next 30yrs. Not only that, but we are in the shadows of a couple beautiful volcanoes.

The main thing that I have learned from Katrina and this earthquake/tsunami in Japan is to go the opposite way of those lining up for government aid. Preparation, of course, is key. You won’t find me making an SOS display and waiting for the helicopter. And I definitely won’t be getting in line at the FEMA camp.

It does indeed sound like a “ton of cash” until one considers that the 2011 deficit alone is $1.6 trillion. So, if the government were to simply confiscate the entire net worth of all of America’s billionaires, we’d still be $300 billion short of making up this year’s deficit.

How the IRS can find $5 of interest I earned on a savings account that I forgot to declare as income, but keeping track of federally regulated physical objects is beyond them.

The IRS should strengthen its controls over its investigative equipment to prevent waste and loss, according to a report publicly released today by TIGTA.

The IRS’s Criminal Investigation Division has nearly 44,000 pieces of investigative equipment ranging from cars and badges to firearms and radios with a total value of nearly $126 million. This equipment is essential to accomplish the IRS’s investigative and enforcement functions.
