Cross Your Fingers Folks!

I’ll be a work during the SOTU tonight, but I’ll still be listening for this.

Bush to Call for Near-Freeze in Spending

President Bush will call for a near-freeze in the overall growth of government spending not connected to national defense to try to rein in record deficits, a senior administration official said on Tuesday.

Bush will make the proposal in Wednesday’s State of the Union address, previewing the fiscal 2006 budget he will send to Congress next Monday.

A senior administration official pointed to Congress’ approval last year of a 0.8 percent cap in non-defense, non-homeland security discretionary spending, and said Bush “will articulate a similar type of goal or principle, which his budget will adhere to.”

Four years too late, but I’ll take it however I can get it.

Homer Simpson Got A New Job

After Mr. Burns fired him for the last time, it seems that Homer and family moved to Hartford, Connecticut.

Evacuate! Evacuate! … Oh, never mind

Despite what residents may have seen on television, the state of Connecticut was not ordered evacuated Tuesday.

State emergency management officials believe someone pressed the wrong button, and instead of running a test of the emergency alert system, midday television viewers and radio listeners were told that the state was being evacuated.

Doh!

Blog Ads

Hey all,

Im kind of in the midst of a corporate created conspiratorial emergency on the work front. Ive been moved to a new location with no access to those internets we all like so much and therefore I cant read on my breaks.

Also, the place stinks. Im not saying this attitudinally, remember, I work for the local trash hauler, so it literally does stink to high heaven. Think Stale Decomposing Flesh so strong that a case of Lysol wont make it go away for at least eight hours a night.

Im not going to complain too badly though. There are American men and women dealing with a hell of a lot more than just that right now. Also, I kind of need the money for something (cough, Boomershoot Rifle, cough).

So just a few quick few things..

First up, you may have seen the ads for this appearing on blogs,

righttalk.JPG

This is kind of a neat little deal. I already listen to Michael Medved and Larry Elder via the web, so this just kind of fits right into my plan. I now have a folder titled Radio

The coolest part about RightTalk is that Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America has an hour long radio show that broadcasts once a week. Mega-Kewl!

Next up, I saw this blog ad on the Kos IMC

Now, some of you will remember the line the left was using a while back about The sanctions on Iraq killed 500,000 Iraqi children yada, yada, yada. All the while ignoring the hundred or so palaces that Saddam and his family were building.

In the Myths and Facts section there is this Myth

Myth:

The OFFP did not achieve its humanitarian goals.

And here is their supplied Fact

Fact:

In fact, the OFFP enabled the importation of enough food to feed all 27 million Iraqis. During its existence, the average daily caloric intake of the people of Iraq increased 83 percent, from 1,200 kilocalories to 2,200 kilocalories per person per day. In addition, malnutrition rates in 2002 in the central and southern part of the country were half those in 1996 among children under the age of five; in the three northern governorates, chronic malnutrition decreased 56 percent. According to an article in the November 21, 2004 edition of The Washington Post:

International aid efforts and the U.N. oil-for-food program helped reduce the ruinous impact of sanctions, and the rate of acute malnutrition among the youngest Iraqis gradually dropped from a peak of 11 percent in 1996 to 4 percent in 2002.

So now, I have to wonder. Was the left telling a lie then or is it telling a lie now, or are they both lies?

According to the add this site is paid for by the United Nations Foundation. I wonder is this where the money for the tsunami voctims went?

Of course, they have to get their digs in on the invasion,

“This same article documented that malnutrition rates in Iraq have increased substantially since the end of the Oil-for-Food Program, from 4% to 7.7%.”

Sad, sad people they are.

Hmmmmmm, OK

Just as long as I get to choose what I want “my taxes to be spent on.”:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;sessionid=YJ5BT23WGMYVTQFIQMGCM54AVCBQUJVC?xml=/news/2005/01/31/nolly31.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/01/31/ixportaltop.html&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=94424

Absolute lunacy – they want to be able to opt out of national defense, but would scream like crazy if we ever wanted to stop funding some of their “progressive” agenda items. Yeah, I know it’s in the UK – but do you think the same thing hasn’t been propsed here?

bq. _*Oliver Letwin, the shadow chancellor, is backing plans for pacifist taxpayers to be allowed not to contribute to the Government’s defence spending.*_

bq. _*He was identified yesterday as a supporter of Conscience: The Peace Tax Campaign, which wants the law to be changed to allow conscientious objectors to have their money spent on “peace building initiatives” instead of the military.*_

I would like to start with NPR and the NEA, please. Then let’s move on to all of the nanny programs running rampant through our system.

By Ourselves, For Ourselves: Part 5

Allrighty then!

I was not able to find the particular disk I was looking for with the original post on it, so this is the re-write. It is pretty darn close to the original though so dig in.

Again, we are going on with the fact that we cannot rely on our government to protect us from the common cold, let alone terrorism. So this set of posts is somewhat of a primer on some preparations you might want to take in order to make the bad times not so bad.

******************

We have, in this series, been talking about getting yourself, your family and your home ready for a semi extensive bunkering during difficult times, such as natural disasters and terrorist attacks. Today, were going to deviate from this line of thinking a bit.

You arent always at home. You go to work, to the store, to friends and relatives homes, etc and you will need a plan for if you get caught away from your home in a natural disaster or terrorist attack so that you can get back to your home, even if it only going to serve as a supply base.

First though, I must apologize for not covering a very important subject before deviating in this manner. First Aid is something that everyone should know and supplies for aid are something that everyone should have.

I am still searching through First Aid supply houses for the best deals so as to help folks assemble a proper kit. I am doing this because the majority of the kits you can buy at an Army/Navy surplus store or from a magazine are vastly inadequate.

As soon as I find all the necessary links (hopefully in another week or so) Ill get that post up.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand; the readiness of your vehicle.

MRE

Massive Rectal Evacuation

For anyone who has eaten decent quantities of MREs for any length of time, Rivrdog has a bit of humor you will enjoy entitled “Dining Chez Ranger“.

For those of you who haven’t, you should still read it.

It starts out innocently enough….

I had a date the other night at my place. On the phone the day before, the girl asked me to “Cook her something she’s never had before” for dinner.

After many minutes of scratching my head over what to make, I finally settled on something she has DEFINATELY never eaten.

I got out my trusty case of MRE’s. Meal, Ready-to-Eat. Field rations that when eaten in their entirety contain 3000+ calories. Here’s what I made:

I took three of the Ham Slices out of their plastic packets, took out three of the Pork Chops, three packets of Chicken-a-la-King, and eight packets of dehydrated butter noodles and some dehydrated/rehydrated rice. I cooked the Ham Slices and Pork Chops in one pan, sauteed in shaved garlic and olive oil.

In another pot, I blended the Chicken a-la-king, noodles, and rice together to make a sort of mush that looked suspiciously like succotash. I added some spices, and blended everything together in a glass pan that I then cooked in the oven for about 35 minutes at 450 degrees.

When I took it out, it looked like, well, ham slices, pork chops, and a bed of yellow poop. I covered the tops of the meat in the MRE cheese (kinda like velveeta) and added some green sprinkly thingys from one of my spice cans (hey, if it’s got green sprinkly thingys on it, it looks fancy right?)

For dessert, I took four MRE Pound Cakes, mashed ’em up, added five packets of cocoa powder, powdered coffee cream, and some water. I heated it up and stirred it until it looked like a sort of chunky gelatinous organism, and I sprinkled powdered sugar on top of it.

Voila–Ranger Pudding.

For alcoholic drinks, I took the rest of my bottle of Military Special Vodka (yes, they DO make a type of liquor named “Military Special”–it sells for $4.35 per fifth) and mixed in four packets of “Electrolytes – 1 each – Cherry flavored” (I swear, the packet says that). It looked like an eerie kool-aid with sparkles in it (that was the electrolytes I guess… could’ve been leftover sand from Egypt).

I lit two candles, put a vase of wildflowers in the middle, and set the table with my best set of Ralph Lauren Academy-series China (that shit is fucking EXPENSIVE… my set of 8 place settings cost me over $600), and put the alcoholic drink in a crystal wine decanter.

Some of you can probably guess what happens next…..

Senators to Introduce ‘Stop Government Propaganda Act’

In response to continued revelations of government-funded “journalism” — ranging from the purported video news releases put out by the drug czar’s office and the Department of Health and Human Services to the recently uncovered payments to columnists Armstrong Williams and Maggie Gallagher, who flacked administration programs — Sens. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.) will introduce a bill, The Stop Government Propaganda Act, in the Senate next week.

“It’s just not enough to say, ‘Please don’t do it anymore,'” Alex Formuzis, Lautenberg’s spokesman, told E&P. “Legislation sometimes is required and we believe it is in this case.”

The Stop Government Propaganda Act states, “Funds appropriated to an Executive branch agency may not be used for publicity or propaganda purposes within the United States unless authorized by law.”

Hahahahahaha!

I guess it will still be OK to be a White House Official and be married to someone in the Press Room though, right?

This Woman Needs a Bodyguard

Nimat Hafez Barazangi, a Muslim woman and a research fellow in Cornell’s Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program has written a book titled “Woman’s Identity and the Qur’an: A New Reading” in which she asserts that the Koran has been misinterpreted for centuries.

New book says the Qur’an gives women the same rights as men

The Qur’an — Islam’s sacred book — offers Muslim women the same rights as men but traditionally has been misinterpreted, denying them those rights. That argument is convincingly made in a new book by a Muslim woman who is a scholar in Islamic foundations of education and identity development at Cornell.

With this news, I am now going to have to fear for her life. How long before some religious leader puts a fatwa on her and she ends up like Theo Van Gogh?

I hope she realizes this as well.
