Police are asking for help finding a suspect who stole an assault-style rifle and 150 rounds of ammunition from the Walmart on Airport Road in South Asheville.
Investigators say the thief broke into a locked gun cabinet in the sporting goods section of the store about 10 p.m.Tuesday.
Surveillance video shows the man stealing an AR-15 rifle and then stuffing the rifle down his pants and exiting the store.
The suspect is described as white and 30-35 years old. He is believed to be 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10 and 150 pounds with short brown hair. He was wearing a white and blue baseball cap, white T-shirt, blue jeans and a black jacket. The suspect may be traveling in a white, newer model, four-door sedan.
Investigators say the rifle and ammo were valued at $920.

Were I a nutso liberal, I’d read this story and be torn. On one hand according to modern progressive doctrine, megacorps like Wal-Mart steal from the American people every day, blah blah blah, so someone taking the tiniest cut into their profits is looked on as a saboteur for the great glory of the proletariat. On the other hand, he stole a gun, and most especially worrying an AR-15, symbol of American imperialist capitalism (ever notice how the gun control progressive libs only seem to bitch about ARs, not AKs; I guess complaining about comrade Kalashnikov’s gift to worldwide communist revolution is too close to bitching about the evils of socialism), so this is double-plus bad. Better find that missing AR-15 before it convinces the thief to go shoot up a school. Obviously the guy should’ve stolen something more useful to the cause of social justice, like alcohol or a TV or wheel rims.
