One more new arrival

At the end of last Friday’s post of a couple of the rifles I’ll be taking to Boomershoot, I posted a really crappy shot from my workbench of the new point and click device.

Santa stopped by and left me T/C Encore receiver. So I spent the time between then and New Years trying to decide what I was going to do. I need a .300 WinMag, but not the ammo cost right now. I would like a back up for my .308 Win & .22-250 bolties, but I didn’t want to play it quite that safe.

What’s a fella to do?

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

I always liked HST, with a couple reservations. But I decided to go pro with this one.

Introducing my as yet unnamed T/C Encore rifle in .357Mag.

I figured that since I now have the wheelguns in the caliber, it was time for a rifle. So I ordered a barrel from Match Grade Machine that was a 24″ Heavy Contour and a 1-to-20 twist rate.

Now, don’t go thinking I’m going to be wasting this barrel’s life slinging factory pistol ammo out of it. I am working up a load that should leave the muzzle at around 2100-2200fps with 125gr projectiles.

I slapped an el cheapo Tasco 3-9x on top because the demands for this rifle for the foreseeable future won’t be much other than fun/experimental duty. I’ll likely recycle the Nikon 6-18x I have on my .22-250 onto once I buy the replacement after I’m back working anyway (which is why I got the high rings).

So far though, I’m posting 2″ groups @ 100yds with some factory Blazer 158gr stuff I had sitting around, so I’m happy for now. I do plan on having the hot load worked up by Boomershoot so I can ring some steel at the 385yd line on Friday/Saturday.

Just wondering what weight of what kind of powder are you figuring to run there – without splitting the case to hell and back, heh, heh, heh.
