RNS Quote of the Day, Happy New Year Edition

According to one unnamed senior South Korean government official, the odds of a North Korean military attack are “100%” and it will happen sometime before April.

I sure hope that Abe fellow has some balls, ’cause our guy sure doesn’t.

  1. Bram says:

I would expect the typical brinksmanship, probes, and incidents. An all-out attack? No way.

The NK’s could kill a lot of civilians in and around Seoul. Then they would get the every-living shit kicked out of them and cease to exist as a nation in about a week unless the Chinese intervened again. The technological disparity between North and South is greater than what we enjoyed over the Iraqis.

    “…unless the Chinese intervened again.”

And that’s the question, isn’t it?

The Chinese “one child” policy, along with selective abortion, has created a massive surplus of young men of military age with no prospects of marriage. This doesn’t look good for the future stability of that nation. China is posturing militarily towards Japan – a nation not liked by North or South Korea.

So, OK, N. Korea attacks S. Korea. S. Korea retaliates and kicks their asses up between their shoulderblades. And if China steps in, then what?
