The sad state of American government employee pension numbers
The bottom line is that by any conservative calculation US pension funds are nowhere close to covering their liabilities. As this reality becomes impossible to ignore, the government will have two choices: shift the burden onto taxpayers through increased taxes, or welch on their promised payments.
Anyone care to guess which path will most likely be taken if the Democrats are still anywhere near to being in charge?
There is a third option. If the retirees do not live to the full statistician guess we would have fewer to pay.
What with Obamacare and the fact doctors get to bury their mistakes, I would be concerned.
