When you become a proponent of amnesty

You’ll find the rose tinted glasses near the bottom of the bag of free goodies.

The Center for American Progress has thrown a bunch of numbers into a bowl and mixed them together to come up with the best looking numbers anyone has ever baked up that show a massive influx of newly legal immigrants will extend the life of Social Security.

In this issue brief, we analyze the impact on the Social Security system of legalizing the undocumented population. Despite the wide body of research that details the economic gains that come with immigration reform, some lawmakers still question the long-term impact of earned legalization on social programs such as Social Security. Bringing undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and allowing them to participate fully in our economy and society will further strengthen many of our country’s social services, both in the immediate future and in the long run. The findings from this brief are clear: If undocumented immigrants acquire legal status and citizenship, they will contribute far more to the Social Security system than they will take out and will strengthen the solvency of Social Security over the next 36 years.

Doubt it. Highly.

These are the same people who will readily admit that they believe the Social Security program SHOULD BE a wealth transfer program and that the income cap MUST be lifted so that the more wealthy are taxed on all their income because doing so will save the program.

Sadly, this “study” will be cited many times in the coming weeks as the shamnesty is debated in the halls of Congress and our talk shows. Most of those debating won’t even ask for the source of the numbers.

Of course, the proggie site takes an inferential leap and believes that grandfathering in all the illegals will suddenly make them into taxpayers instead of the tax-dodgers they are now.

They don’t realize that most of the putative new citizens are smart enought to continue to work under the table. My guess? Maybe 20% of them will start paying taxes when they are granted amnesty. Until employers start doing hard time for hiring under the table, this issue isn’t going away.

My original idea will still work: cut off the “envios de dineros” by throwing a switch at the Fed, and suddenly most of the iullegals self-deport.

This doesn’t even get into the murmurs I’ve heard about granting the newly designated ‘citizens’ retroactive benefits.

I swear, they are trying to drive the country straight into the cliff.
