In the contest for “Most Asinine State in the Union,” California just planted a foot in New York’s face and made the slam dunk.
David… you may want to prepare options. You’ve probably already done so to some extent. You may want to consider them carefully.
Well, this is hardly unexpected. Most of this stuff won’t make it into a bill that gets out of committee, and those bills that do will be amended to hell to remove the most objectionable provisions. The Democrats in that press conference are the most radical of their caucus on this issue; they are, thankfully, not representative of the whole.
Also, governors have backdoor ways to ensure bills they don’t want to sign (but don’t want to veto, either) never make it to their desk.
We’re in a fight in California, that’s for sure, but I think this may be the high-water mark for the other side.
Plus, bad laws make excellent civil rights cases. There are these nifty things called injunctions that stay enforcement while the Constitutionality of the law’s being litigated….. 🙂
You sound much more sanguine than I expected. From the sounds of the post I thought these were pretty much a done deal like NY’s law… all over but the suing.
Glad that’s not the case. However, if you need “remote storage” I’m investing in a larger gun safe soon…
