RNS Quote of the Day: 01/30/13

My goodness!

Sanity in governance!

Today, I’m calling for a mechanism to be put in place so when we do bring in more than we need, we’ll have the option of returning tax money directly to the people who paid it. Currently, that’s not something our constitution allows. We need to fix that.

Rick Perry, Governor of Texas

What a novel idea.

Hey Guv’ner, in Oregon, we have that, it’s called the “Tax Kicker”!

The State Revenue Office makes a prediction of revenue. If the actual tax collection for personal income tax exceeds that number by 2%, the excess is returned directly to taxpayers. We used to have one for business income taxes too, but the leges removed that one two years ago.

The program is a burr under the saddle of the Left, which has repeatedly tried to remove it, but can’t, due to it’s being enshrined in the Constitution.

We just have a sales tax. And even the libs around here resist a state income tax… so far.
