Pro Gun Piece Leads to Twits

Or is it “Tweets”?

If you’re asking me, it should be Twits, because twits.

But on to the story

A Michigan police officer says he’s not deterred by the negative reaction caused by his letter to a Calgary newspaper.

Walt Wawra wrote in a letter to the Calgary Herald editor that he wished he had a gun on a recent trip to Calgary.

The veteran officer said he was on a walk with his wife at Nose Hill Park when they were approached by two “aggressive” men.

“They said to me: ‘Hey, have you been to the Stampede yet?’ And my wife and I both looked at him, and we ignored that first comment,” Wawra said.

“They moved a little closer and they said a little louder: ‘Hey! Have you been to the Stampede yet?’ I believe I said in response: ‘Gentlemen, I don’t have need to talk to you about anything. Goodbye.’”

The man said he felt uncomfortable without his off-duty hand gun, and wrote that “in Canada, only the criminals and the police carry handguns.”

On Twitter, the letter was the butt of jokes. It even spawned its own hash tag: #NoseHillGentlemen.

If those canucks enjoy being treated as though they are irresponsible children by their government, that is up to them and that is fine with me. Just so long as they keep their twits north of the border.

One reason I’ve never bothered with getting an enhanced driver’s license or passport since leaving the military. I don’t have a huge desire to go someplace where defending myself is a felony. I visited enough of those places in Europe.

My last trip to Canukistan was my LAST trip. My wife and I were accosted in downtown Vancouver by three Asian teenagers who wanted to do a little freelance wealth redistribution. I had a knife with a three and a quarter inch blade clipped inside my pocket. A cop saw the disturbance, and arrested……….wait for it………me.
I was the victim of a mugging by three armed teenagers, and I was arrested because bigger knife. I was released three hours later by a very annoyed official of some sort who didn’t want to be arsed to fill out forty pages of paperwork. The missus and I went home immediately. Called the hotel from home to let them know why we left. They refunded the two days we didn’t use and apologised for their Country. Canukistan is dead to me, won’t ever spend another red cent there again.
