The Soundboard: James Jamerson

In honor of Phil’s new hobby/”college course,” I have decided to post on one of my favorite bassists, James Jamerson. I have always loved the Motown sound, especially how the bass lines generally drive the songs. There is a lot of mystery and rumors surrounding who actually played on the recordings since Berry Gordy didn’t like crediting his studio musicians. Just watch Standing in the Shadows of Motown for more on that. Seriously, find it and watch it.

Though Carol Kaye lays claim to many of Motown’s hits, those that were there swear that the recordings below were all Jamerson. You surely know the songs, but really listen to the bass lines.
