RNS Quote of the Day: 05/25/11

Why is it that Hollywood screenwriters so consistently portray preparedness-minded people as lunatics?

James Wesley Rawles

The Left assumes you must be a kook if you do not want to rely on the government for help in tough times.

On a popular radio talk show this morning, I heard a caller from Billings, MT describe how a great portion of Eastern Montana is flooding right now. It hasn’t made major news considering the other weather related events lately…well, that and the folks in Montana are self reliant and probably don’t need much help.

Already knowing the answer, the host of the show asked the caller, “Aren’t you all worried about looters?” With a chuckle, the man replied, “Heh, not in Montana. You’ll end up on the wrong side of a barrel if you try anything like that around here.”

They will never understand.

Being paranoid doesn’t make you wrong.

“Because if you’re making such preparations, WE know it’s not really about storms, you’re getting ready to REBEL AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT!!!” Or something like that.

After the OKC Bombing some news weenie asked the governor if he was worried about looting; he said something along the lines of “People here are too busy working on this for looting to happen.” The part added by everyone else: “You get caught looting, it better be by the police.”

    MSgt Anthony –

I have seen the photos and my heart goes out to you all. Just to clarify, when I wrote that folks in Montana “probably don’t need much help,” I meant specifically Federal Gov’t help. Local government/family/community help is where it’s at. That is what will make communities stronger.

Back to the issue of why Leftists think that self-preparedness is creepy, a helping hand is a controlling hand, and if everyone needs to be helped, then everyone can be controlled.

I have seen the Havre Daily News and there is concern along the Milk River as well. I am originally from Havre. Hi Line. The Milk River last flooded in the fall of 1986. I was headed from NAS Lemoore CA to Malta to hunt that fall. Got there afterwards.

And I linked this to my blog. To good to pass up!
