The “New Tone” is so last month

Even amongst leftists arguing with each other.

Take, for instance, the hyper-leftist FireDogLake freaks comments about Obama’s OpEd piece on firearms.

I regularly visit gunblogs and gunboards where people regularly say nicer things about the guy than the FDL people.

And speaking of leftists and the topic of firearms, they’re freaking out over the new rules for voter ID in Texas.

Apparently, Texas voter can now use their Concealed Carry Permit as ID at the polling places even though it doesn’t have their picture on it. The leftosphere is hating this and claiming it is a conspiracy to make it easier for Republicans to vote.

I guess, because they don’t believe any self-respecting Democrat would ever exercise their Second Amendment rights?

And lastly, the gun-bigot leftists are upset that the NRA is refusing to meet with the White House to discuss the future restrictions to gun owner rights.

The Texas Concealed Handgun License (CHL) does in fact have the holder’s picture on it. In addition to the picture, it also shows the holder’s driver’s license number, sex, hair color, height, weight, date of birth, and full address. Texas driver’s licenses are cross referenced with the CHL data base so that when any law officer enters a driver’s license number at a traffic stop, it will automatically tell the officer if the person also has a CHL. In Texas it is required to present your CHL as well as your driver’s license when the driver’s license is requested by the officer if you have a handgun in your automobile at the time.

What I really liked was when they started eating each other. Gotta love it.

Gotta love the cannibalism! That they expect the NRA to join in the cannibal feast is a bit weird since they do tend to be an elitist and exclusionary group.

The requirement to present the TX CHL with the driver’s license if stopped by the police means I have to carry the CHL at all times. This has led to some interesting conversations with bank tellers, checkout clerks, and bureaucrats when I have accidentally handed them the CHL for ID instead of the driver’s license. And yes, the CHL has more info on it than the driver’s license, and includes a full set of fingerprints on file, not just the thumbprints that TX takes for the DL.
