RNS Quote of the Day: 08/19/10

Senators John McCain (RINO-AZ) and Jon Tester (D-MT) have sponsored a bill in the Senate which force the District of Columbia to drop all the onerous new laws they wrote and passed in the wake of the Heller decision.

But one of the DC Councilmen thinks they’re meddling where they shouldn’t be

Council member Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) said the McCain-Tester bill could gut the District’s regulatory powers, including laws that are stricter than most states about keeping guns away from people with records of domestic violence. He also said the law shows a disregard for the realities of the District, where guns mean drive-bys, holdups and intimidation more than sport, tradition and the American way.

Well then, if Councilman Mendelson thinks this is true, then maybe there is an issue with the folks in DC the council could look at fixing instead of enabiling it by treating the residents as if they were retarded children?

In all seriousness, the past and current city councils have created the culture that exists through their abominable legislative efforts. They should all resign if they truly believe that the only reason the law abiding citizenry are not killing each other is because of the city’s hyper-restrictive firearm regulations.

  1. Rivrdog says:

…and these DeeCee councilcritters need to realize that they live in the Federal District of Columbia, and their affairs are managed by the Senators and Representatives that they seem to hate.

They can get over it. It’s law.

From Mendelson’s tone, one might almost think that the inmates of DeeCee (District of the Congo) weren’t already killing one another continuously with great enthusiasm despite all that can be done legislatively to keep guns, knives, assegais, flint tomahawks, etc. from falling into their hands.

Men of doubtless evil intent might find themselves speculating on exactly what distinguishes this population from the peaceful and productive folk of the Alexandria ‘burbs a few miles away, and what possible link they could have to other populations observed to behave in such a manner in Detroit, New Orleans, Harlem, Compton, Memphis, East St. Louis, Haiti, Darfur, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda. Entertaining such ideas is, of course, THOUGHTCRIME.
