RNS Quote of the Day: 08/02/10

Let’s start the first workday of the month with a solid one.

Men do not make laws. They do but discover them. Laws must be justified by something more than the will of the majority. They must rest on the eternal foundation of righteousness. You can display no greater wisdom than by resisting proposals for needless legislation. It is much more important to kill bad bills than to pass good ones.

Calvin Coolidge

Once again I will suggest that one of the first cost-cutting bills that should be passed through Congress is the complete and total shut-down of the air conditioning systems in each house of Congress.

It’ll save us money in two ways:

1 – The Congress can show us how “green” they are by cutting their electricity usage, which, just for the AC, would probably reach into the millions of dollars saved.

2 – If it is too hot to legislate, it is too hot to pass new legislation. As everyone knows, when Congress is in session you need to watch both your rights and your wallet.

  1. DFWMTX says:

Both houses of Congress? Include most every non-essential government office in that list as well. Make them remember that DC is built in a swamp and they need to go home to visit the people whom elected them.

Make them pay for their own food and drink, and include their unelected staffs, and you save a pretty penny as well.
