Range Day

As you probably remember from the announcement, Scott and I had a mini-RNS “Day at the Range” yesterday.

I didn’t take too many pics, but just in case you’d like to put a face to the posts…

One of the interesting things I’ve ever seen at the range without being at a match was this (and it’s for sale!)

That, faithful readers, is a very “Match Prepped” Springfield 03. It currently runs a peep/globe iron sight set-up, which the current owner claims gets him 3/4 MOA. It is also already set up with the bases for, if I remember correctly, a Unertil scope, and has the beefier target stock, which I believe is walnut.

The rifle was built using a Douglas Match barrel by local riflesmith extraordinaire, Dan Cowan, not too long ago. Unfortunately, the owner has fell upon, shall we say, hard times, and is needing to get cash. He is asking $2200, which I understand is on the “high end” of the range, but I think negotiations can be done.

Feel free to contact me via the email addys hidden under the link at the top of the sidebar to put you in contact with the owner.

    What a good looking guy!

Hi? Ummm, yes. There are “built” 03A3’s out there for less than a Large. I found one with a brand new match barrel in Idaho this Spring for $850.

Provenance means something though, and if the shooter has been winning matches with it, that could conceivably double the price.

Sorry I couldn’t make it, Phil, had hoped to be able to.
