Opiate of the Masses

The parallels with, say, public school teachers are striking.

    Whiners all.

I know that’s not the point of the article, but that’s what I take from it. And I’m an atheist as well.

Anyone who has served on a Church Session / Board of Directors knows the trade-offs. Of course we want a great preacher who is going to work to save our souls and others in the community.

We also have bills to pay and an old building falling into disrepair. If we don’t put people in the pews, we won’t be a church for long.

All that stuff about congregations being consumers or customers or whatnot is fine and good, but unless you believe exactly what I believe, you are all going to Hell for eternity. At least that was what I got out of my early religious instruction.
