RNS Quote of the Day: 12/21/09

I think this may be the beginning of a new essay.

And all those lousy holiday songs by Jewish guys that trash up the malls every year, Rudolph and the chestnuts and the rest of that dreck. Did one of our guys write ‘Grab your loafers, come along if you wanna, and we’ll blow that shofar for Rosh Hashanah’? No, we didn’t. Christmas is a Christian holiday—if you’re not in the club, then buzz off.

Lake Woebegon used to be a nice place until Kranky Keilllor started dishing out the anti-religious hatred. First he became convinced Christians shouldn’t vote in American elections, now this!

It’s happy holidays, plural, ie: many holidays. Christmas, Huanakhah, Kwanaza, Festivus, the Feast of Year-End Capitalism, the Party to Combat Cabin Fever, Eid, Saturnalia, Yule, etc. The holiday isn’t just for Christians anymore; it’s for everyone seeking to escape for a brief time from the dreary cold of winter, the clutch of cabin fever, the lack of sunlight. We live in a diverse world, and strangely lots of folks celebrate some day pretty close to the winter solistace. It’s not jsut for Christians, Keillor.

Keillor is a one trick pony gone senile. Why anyone pays attention to him is a mystery to me.
