RNS Quote of the Day: 12/09/09

Uncle linked to an article pointing out that the Joyce Foundation lackeys would like to put NRA members on the usually inaccurate Terrorist Watchlist run by Homeland Security.

In the comments to the article I found this comment that, I believe, needs to be sung from the rooftops

If my ownership of guns strikes terror in the hearts of those who would deny my citizenship and unalienable rights, good! However, the word terrorism has been hijacked. It is not terrorism to make your enemies fear you or your likely actions. Terrorism is when one strikes fear in the hearts of innocents in the hopes of causing them to apply political pressure to the relative societal structure to accede to one’s demands. It always amazes me that so few even understand the meaning of the world and believe any fear is the result of terrorism.

StraightArrow

They have co-opted the phrase and now use it to scare people with. We need to correct this oversight by informing those people of the truth.

Otherwise, guys like my local fearmonger, David Neiwert, get to spew crap about a group of citizens gathering with their local representatives and law enforcement, like what happened in Spokane, Wa / Post Falls, ID over the last weekend.

When you have law-enforcement officials and state legislators showing up to support citizen militias and “oath keepers” who believe the federal government is about to swoop down in black helicopters and round up citizens to imprison them in concentration camps … Well, that’s a problem for everyone.

It’s like the 1990s on steroids. Back then, it produced a notable spate of domestic terrorism. This time around, with so many more people being successfully recruited, one can only imagine the violence that awaits us all.

Always remember that in “Progressive World”, if you’re worried about of out of control Keynesian economics and infringements on your Constitutional rights, you’re dangerous and the populace needs to be frightened of you.

Never mind that you are the populace.

  1. Rivrdog says:

I take issue with Straight Arrow’s definition of terrorism.

Terrorism is using calculated, definable ACTIONS to cause fear of imminent death in the mind of those to be terrorized.

Terrorism is NOT the irrational fears of a few, amped up to any fever pitch. That was just demonstrated by the actions of the Flying Imams in Minnesota, wasn’t it? Those actions were ruled to be NOT terroristic, so how could possessing “scary” semi-automatic firearms, in a private gun safe, hidden from public view, be considered terroristic in the least bit?

There’s a “reasonableness” test in whether something is terroristic. The mere ownership of legal firearms in a society which permits such ownership can never be a legal basis for defining any action as an act of terror, or even define a person as a POTENTIAL terrorist.

There need to be some lawsuits NOW to strike down this “watchlist”, because the way it’s being run, with all the secrecy rules, not only is un-Constitutional to the max, it is a dangerous weapon to give a government already prone to dangerous thought and actions against the Constitution.
