No. No. No.

No and absolutely, NO!

It is all wrong.

Jude Law as Watson I can tolerate.

But Downey Jr.’s Holmes is simply not acceptable in any way. Too young, too short, wrong build, wrong accent.

I am of the opinion that Doyle would have sued.

I’m going to have to see it (at least on video, followed by hours of Brett and Hardwicke), so why can’t they at the very least make it watchable?

Oh crap. They’ve gone and totally screwed it up.

Their casting is totally off kilter. I’m not sure who I would have picked, but certainly not those two.

And I’m sure they have a few other details totally wrong as well.

  2. Mollbot says:

Yeah I’m not… enthused about it either.

  3. DirtCrashr says:

    Not gonna see it. Can’t.

  4. David says:

I know it’s heresy, but I can see this working. Downey looks nothing like Holmes, but Jude Law is close to the early (lean, athletic) Watson, and Downey’s certainly playing up Holmes’ assholedness, which nobody really emphasized until Brett.

  5. Mollbot says:

Yes Holmes was rude; but it was a byproduct of his keen wit – he was constantly waiting for everyone else to catch up to the conclusions he already reached.

Not because he liked to pick fights and act idiotic.

  6. I dunno…Jeremy Brett is a damn hard act to follow. It might work if they go for camp, rather than serious. Sort of a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the stories.

  7. Linoge says:

Huh. I was actually looking forward to it, but then I have no preconceived notions having never seen any previous incarnations.

  8. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, all else is heresy…..

    ……. Mr. C.
