Low expectations

I’m guessing that since deserters can’t complete their sworn duties, the sinestra of Bellingham don’t expect them to be able to complete the whole journey to Canada either.

The Bellingham City Council announced that they will hold a community meeting on Monday night to discuss the possibility of the city becoming a “sanctuary city” for soldiers who have gone absent without leave, or AWOL.

According to the Bellingham Herald: “Members of the G.I. Sanctuary City Movement, a group started by Western Washington University students, has offered up a resolution that would order city law enforcement not to detain military members who are absent without leave.”

In a live interview on the Dave Ross show Whatcom County Republican Party chairwoman, Luanne Van Werven, said she will be attending the meeting in opposition to the student group, “The patriotic citizens of Bellingham are making no such call for legal protection for AWOL soldiers. It’s just a small group of college students, and that is certainly not a gauge of citizen support.”

Van Werven said that local governments should not be undermining federal law, noting that, “We have a volunteer army and there are ways that a person can get out of the military without deserting.”

This is a purely Western Washington University (aka: Evergreen of the North) student driven idea and was only accepted as an idea to appease their relentless requests for a hearing.

I would put money down that, if asked, only a small fraction of these moonbats would personally house the deserters for fear of losing their educational grants and loans that allow them to waste the city’s time with this pap.

One Response to Low expectations

  1. Bill Waites says:

Are any of the students so inclined legally residents of the city, meaning, “Do they actually vote there?”

If not, the city has no obligation that I can see to even listen to them at all.

Second, is the city receiving any stimulus funds? If so, I think such an act should seriously endanger those funds.
