I used to be in the nuke deterrent biznez. Strategic Air Command. We were trained in the fact, and all of us understood that the fear factor of nuclear war was what kept the world from getting into a nuclear war.
Now come all the fuzzy thinkers, who think that fear is an undesirable quality in human life (wrong! it is the original and forever motivator). So, they have eliminated fear of US nuclear retaliation from the arsenal of US power projection.
The result: every tinhorn dictator now thinks that he can have nukes, threaten the world with them, and get what they want as a result.
The simple solution:
Revive the fear factor. All we need to do is announce that the pipsqueak rogue nations now have ICBM missiles aimed at them (or SLBMs). The lefties would be outraged, we would be called bullies, but the generals in those rogue nations who have to give the orders would have pause to reflect on THEIR survival. That pause to reflect is all you need in the nuke deterrent game.
