As it usually goes, I went though the CD collection and dug out the Portishead rarities.

And after a thorough going-through I was jonesin’ for “more but different”, which led to the Tricky file.

And as such, you get Maxinquaye to-day.

It has been a while since this progression has taken place, and what with all the Organizing for America “Army” and “mandatory volunteerism” talk going on in our current events, this song rang deep with me in a way that it hadn’t before.

I know who the original artist is and I know the subject matter. But would truly like to see someone rehash this in a way that’ll pertain to the above mentioned “non-military governmental service” requirements currently spoken abotu in Congress and elsewhere.

    Overcome reminds me of 1997-1998. Had a girlfriend that would, uh, play Tricky every night.
