RNS Quote of the Day: 04/08/09

Something the left might like to keep in mind as they blame the NRA and any other favorite target for the recent spate of murders with firearms. From an unexpected source.

Ultimately it is not the nuts that are the greatest threat to Democracy. As history has shown us over and over and over again, the greatest threat to Democracy is the unbridled power of the state over its citizens. Which, by the way, that power is always unleashed in the name of preservation.

Dr. Madeline “Mandy” Hampton as played by Moira Kelly in Episode 7, Season 1 of The West Wing

My current most guilty pleasure is watching reruns of this television show. It has gotten so bad that I have 50% of our living room DVR filled with episodes I need to watch and have put the DVD box set on my Amazon Wish List.

Despite the heavy handed demonizing of Republicans, the relentless drum-banging for leftist issues and the near-complete lack of reality, I find it terribly amusing and the quick pace energizing.

So if some Monday I step up in here talking all progressive and shit, I must have had a West Wing Marathon to clear space on the DVR.

  1. Chris Byrne says:

I love the west wing for its writing. The dialog, the storyline; they’re near perfect.

Also, for a show written by flaming liberals about flaming liberals, they are surprisingly fair to conservatives much of the time.

Also, Ainsley Hayes is the best character ever.

  2. Richard Calderwood says:

West Wing’s writers and many of its stars came directly from Sports Night, which was even better written and far funnier. SN only ran two seasons, and had great ratings when it was yanked. Some Lefty needed ’em for West Wing agenda-driving and audience-indoctrinating.
