Pre-Emptive De-Bibling

No one has complained, and they want to keep it that way

Worshippers at one of the state’s largest hospital chapels have been ordered to get rid of crucifixes and Bibles and pull down religious pictures and symbols for fear of offending other religions.

The decision by Royal North Shore Hospital has outraged patients and their families, many of whom have turned to the chapel for comfort in their darkest hours.

Hospital managers ordered the ban on symbols of any kind because the chapel was increasingly being used by a number of different faiths.

But Mosman Mayor Dominic Lopez said angry patients were offended that the chapel no longer represented a holy place.

As Tim Blair points out, no one in the local or Australian national media has yet been able to find a single person who made mention that they were offended by the slathering of Christianity in the room.

And I’d like to point out that no one has yet to make light as to the reasons behind the hospital administration’s new policy, so I would like to offer my own theory: They thought up the idea the night before while on an alcoholic bender and it sounded like a good idea.

Alternate theory: They’re just fucknozzels.

One Response to Pre-Emptive De-Bibling

Yeah, but in their defense, it should be pointed out that Australia, as a Crown Colony until a few decades ago, had an official State religion and church, the Anglican Church (Church of England).

The Aussies don’t have an official religion any more, so some removal of the accoutrements of the old State religion is probably appropriate. I wonder why the hospitals don’t just affiliate with an order of missionaries like most of our hospitals do? There could then be a chapel, complete with crucifix, as long as there was a non-secular room also set aside for meditation.

If I’m going to meditate, all I need is a quiet place, and I don’t give a fig if it has a Crucifix, a Buddha or the Ark of the Covenant in it. These atheists ought to grow a life.
