Biased?

Surely, you jest!

Not these people. They only want what is best for us.

The smart set here in New York has long declared the SUV dead.

That gas-guzzling, pollutant-spewing darling of suburban and rural America is a passé relic of a bygone era, according to the book editors, fashion photographers, literary critics, Broadway choreographers and other practitioners of the bedrock industries that built this country.

They’d better stay away from the New York auto show this week because there they will see car manufacturers showing off their latest off-road contenders, and the majority of the new models unveiled at the show’s press preview earlier this week were SUVs or crossovers. Why? Because while these vehicles may have been declared dead in Manhattan, the residents of the Fly-Over states have kept buying them (to the extent that anyone is buying anything more than food and water these days).

….

These larger vehicles remain popular. AutoTrader.com reports that 11 of the top 20 vehicles consumers researched on the company’s web site in March were trucks or SUVs.

Last Wednesday, Chrysler brought out their new Grand Cherokee, to much bitching and moaning from the left.

The problem with the ZJ Grand Cherokee is that it is expensive as hell. Jeep (Chrysler) cancelled the regular XJ Cherokee because they didn’t want the rolling turd that is the Liberty to have any same-lot competition, not because the Cherokee’s sales were down.

Then they then went on to waste money on the Compass so that there was a reason to build the Dodge Caliber (which also doesn’t sell worth a shit).

Bad business decisions, not lack of want, is what these companies are suffering from. Explorer sales aren’t down, respectively across the market, because people want them.

But all we get to hear about is what folks in Manhatten or Los Angeles want because that is where the media types hang out.

Personally, I don’t know why FOX doesn’t move it’s studios to Houston or some other midwest hub. The money they’d save int he first six months would more than cover the cost of the move.
