New Aquisition

As I’ve documented here previously, whether for good or for ill, I’m “The Gunny” at my place of employ, and the questions have been getting more frequent over the last six months.

One of my coworkers in particular has been jones’n’ for a 1911 for a while now and multiple questions per week were being answered by me for him. I’m happy to report that the gentleman has finally taken delivery of his Springfield Armory 1911-a1 GI.

However, in order to cover the cost of this pistol, he was needing to sell to .45 he already owned. Being the helpful fellow that I am, I purchased it from him.

It is a stainless EAA Witness Compact in .45ACP.

Prior to my bringing it home, I was just happy to have another privately purchased pistol. Part of this was because I new little to nothing about these pistols other than they are DA/SA clones of the CZ-75.

Upon bringing it home I took a good long look through various forums and other sites to learn more about the EAA’s and am pleased to report that I’ll me a returning customer.

This pistol in particular, while I didn’t know it at the time, is actually a Compact model with a rather cool modification: A Threaded barrel w/a single port compensator.

It essentially started out like this pistol (for sale here)

And the had a kit such as this one (for sale in a rather kick-ass package here) added on to it.

The EAA website has these kits for sale in the parts section for very reasonable prices. I have the single port comp, the above is a double port comp and they also sell a triple port comp kit. EAA also has complete conversion kits. Calibers include 22LR, 9mm, .38 Super, .40 S&W, 10mm and .45ACP.

I’m currently contemplating my next upgrade and may finally have a gun I can carry in 10mm, compete in .45ACP and train in 9mm or 22LR for a reasonable price (even with having to buy mags). Picture me smiling.

Yes, I have seen the report by Turk Turon on the cracking of the slide of his 10mm Witness and I will watch for that when I get mine. In the meantime, he can order a new slide here.

Being a 1911 junkie, I’ve never really had a fondness for the DA/SA type actions, but they’ve been growing on me via my CZ-83 that I’ve owned for five or six years. This one has enough creep to outcreep Lurch Addams, so it’ll be going off to the smith soon for a thorough going through. I’ve also aready ordered some Kingwood grips to replace the ugly plastic ones, but since the pistol came with two mags and the necessary mag pouches and leather, I’m set.

We’ll be having a co-worker range session on 02/28. The wife of one of the guys is getting her CCW, so he asked me to accompany them to the range when she makes her carry pistol selection. Since the setting of the date, another six fellas have expressed interest in joining us. If anyone reading this would like to join us, just drop me a line for the date and time.

I had a fullsize Witness 45 back in the mid-90s.

    1. I tried installing some Hogue “Witness” grips. They didn’t fit. Hopefully manufacturers are better recognizing size differences of large frames.

    2. I had horrible trigger stacking. My smith replaced the springs and did a trigger job. Muuuch better!!

    Good luck,
