Range RoundUp

Met up with Chad for breakfast just before 0900 and BS’d for an hour or so before heading off to Wade’s Indoor Range in Bellevue.

I brought a selection to have some fun with, five of which were pistols I normally do not take out for practice. And it showed. I was pushing all my revolver shots high and everything else to the left at seven and ten meters.

Chad brought only one, but it was a good one. His latest acquisition, as a matter of fact, all the way from Fayetteville, NC

A Springfield Armory EMP

He let me put a few mags through it and I must say that I loved every minute of it.

Now, I love me some 1911. Every day, in every way. And this little pistol was even better than I thought it would be: Small enough to put in my back pocket, carries enough of a punch to be effective, but because it is 9mm, not a whole lot of recoil.

Rapid fired double tap groups were easily sub-palm size.

Now I just have to figure out what I’m going to have to sell so I can afford one for myself. But then again, I still owe money for one new purchase already.

Before we went our separate ways, Chad and I had our traditional Beer Exchange. He got the upper hand in this swap, giving me pint bottles in exchange for my sixer of sixteens.

Hell, he even bought some Old Viscosity Ale for Buddy

But the next time he gets sent off to the ‘Stan, I’ll be sending some OAB, and that’ll even us out, I think.

(and for those who say you can’t send stuff like OAB to places such as those, you are suffering from a severe lack of imagination)

I have to say that 2/3 of the swap is already gone. Saving the OAB and “Censored” for the food of today and tonight.

As always, I had a good grounding in the happenings of the left coast and actually hit the paper every single time. Bummer that the exploding boxes only come once a year.

And again, thanks to both Phil and Dave for the support over the past, damn, over five years I believe…

I have several and like the 1991 platform but carry the 9mm Kahr instead. Not sure why a SD decision would continue to the cocked and locked weapon when other like the Kahr is around in 9/40/.45…smaller, thinner, lighter, and no safety to fumble at the wrong moment. But thats freedom for ya. Happy New Year even if there was NO photo of a silver disco ball….

And you’re absolutely welcome, Chad. Let me know how the OAB and the Laganitas test out.

Also, anytime the government sends you somewhere uncivilized (aka: w/o beer, or even decent food) you can count on our support. And even if they do send you somewhere civilized, just ask. Speaking of which, I’m thinking of ditching the cans idea and am testing Growlers for storage and shipping. However, I think that that idea might be ditched due to you inability to ship them back, but I’m working on that too.

Sul, having trained extensively w/the 1911 (since my pre-teenage years), I’d have to lose both thumbs before my muscle memory would fail me with safety removal. Oppositely, though you are about the 50th person whom I know who loves their Kahr (place other tupperware compact name here), my accuracy with a DAO trigger does not meet my rather unrealistic standards (head shot at 50ft). Besides the 1911, only S&W J-frames and their clones have yet to meet those standards, so those are what I carry.

Mumm, OK, but I have been to shooting scenes where the “extensively trained, muscle memoried gun packers” were left pulling the trigger in the crunch forgetting how to, at that moment, release the safety…One guy threw the gun and ran after forgetting while under fire how to release the safety after packing that 1911 for over 40 years. This is a big part of why 90+% of police departments no longer allow cocked and locked, not JUST because of fear of AD’s. But hey as I said thats freedom. AND do not denigate my “tupperware” that comes too close to negative comments on my “life style” a no-no don’t ya know? You should say “He carries tupperware…not that theres anything wrong with that…) +1 on the J frames I like them as well, or used to when matched against the Kahr…

That may be the excuse they use where you live, Sul, but the reason the departments around here don’t let the LEOs use single action semis is because it scares the yuppies and little old ladies.

They complained about feeling “intimidated” and away went the 1911.
