A little taste of home

SanFranNan is steadfastly against putting the Goons o’Gitmo that she says she is so worried about anywhere near her district

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday shrugged off Republican suggestions that the federal government reopen Alcatraz prison in her San Francisco district to house detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

President Obama this week signed an executive order calling for the closure of the prison at Guantanamo within the year. Republican Rep. Bill Young then suggested to White House counsel Greg Craig that the prisoners who could not be released back to their home countries or sent to a third country be put up in “the Rock,” the famous military installation and prison that closed down in 1963 and is now part of the National Park Service.

Asked whether that was a serious proposal, Pelosi said, “It is — no.”

“Perhaps he’s not visited Alcatraz,” Pelosi said of Young while displaying little sense of humor. “Alcatraz is a tourist attraction. It’s a prison that is now sort of like a — it’s a national park.”

Which means that if I had a California CCW I could carry a pistol there.

But really, Speaker Nancy is really just afraid of pissing off the Berzerkley-ites who so enjoy dressing up like members of the Club Gitmo Crew. How would their protest-shows go off when the real thing is so close near by?

Alcatraz’ cool climate is not conducive to the kind of Spa-treatment she intends for her Gitmo male-harem…

The facilities would need serious overhaul. You might even need to demolish the current building and rebuild rather than re-use the current structure; there have been many documentries detailing the escapes and the methods used of Alcatraz.

Or if Pelosi doesn’t like that, why not bring a ship out of mothball or buy a used supertanker, and refurbish it to serve as a floating prison? Put it in international waters and you still get the same ‘legal limbo’ that Gitmo uses. I’d be surprised if the CIA wasn’t using the method already, and just not telling anyone about it.

That kind of serious overhaul is a perfect sink-hole for “Infrastructure Improvements” and “Economic Stimulus” pork money! How can she be against THAT??

You know, I keep shopping this idea of boarding current Club Gitmo tourists on to a decommissioned warship in the Philly Navy Yard, cutting the moorings loose, and letting them become a real life Flying Dutchman around, but no one seems to think it’ll work.

Heck, teaching them how to fish would be the hardest part. I suppose that could be optional.

DFWMTX — forgot to include a reference to your comment, since we’re mostly on the same wavelength. Sorry about that.
