I’m not what I’d call an expert, but I do own a 336. Got questions?

  2. HKpistole says:

aye, I’ve got one too. I’m no expert either, but I think I know which end is the dangerous one…

    Email in your directions.

I think that’s the model I gave my brother for Christmas about a decade ago (in .357). He likes it very much.

I’ve had one in .30-30 for well over a decade.

You can check it out, and shoot it, if we do another Blastorama in Portland…

    Yar!

I own one in 30-30; I like it; I shot my 1st deer with it. I chose it over a Winchester because its a little heavier (little less recoil), ejects to the side rather than straight up, and the stock was more comfortable… not an expert on them by any means though…

On a slightly related topic, any thoughts on the difference between the SW M&P version of the AR and the RockRiver version? Local gunshop has Bushmaster, SW, and RockRivers priced identically. I got a couple of bucks burning a hole in my pocket and with the potential of Barry in The White House- a touch of paranoia (or maybe it is an excuse. Is one a better value?

    Got two Marlins, a .357 and a .44. Both are Model 1894C.

I doubt if there’s much difference between them and the 336, so shoot me your technical question and I’ll try to answer it.

BTW, the best iron sights for a Marlin are XS Ghost Ring. If you have a real old 336, you will have to get the rear of the receiver dripped and tapped to take the Ghost Ring mount. The front sight is a tap-in replacement to the dovetail blade the rifle came with.

If you have an older Marlin, it may have a Williams Tang sight on it. Don’t replace that, it’s better than the Ghost Ring, IF IT’S PROPERLY INSTALLED.

On the ARs, I don’t own one, but I read a lot about them, enough to know that the S/W is fairly new, and might not have a track record yet. I’d probably go with Bushmaster or Rock River if’n I was buying a poodleshooter right now.

Dripped and tapped? Jebus, two scotches did THAT to me?
