RNS Quote of the Day: 08/11/08

Follow along, won’t you?

We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve American’s continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

The Democratic National Committee platform for 2008

Hit the link to that .pdf file and skip down to page 46 and read it for yourself.

Notice how the first sentence disagrees with every other sentence in the statement.

If this is their (and Obama’s) platform in 2008, imagine how much more Brady-like it will be in 2012.

Kinda refreshing to see that, actually. Many of the Ds elected to Congress in ’06 were pro-gun, and the recent Heller victory has been giving pro-gun Democrats hopeful feelings that their party has finally realized that gun-control is a loosing issue and that if the Democratic party could drop it they might win more. But the party has gone back to its filth, and handed us the “Dems want to take your guns” meme for the upcoming election.
