The other RNS Quote of the Day

So I’m reading through the HuffPo so that you all don’t have to, and I find this moron, David Johnson, and his post about it is all a “Big Media Conspiracy” that is convincing people that drilling for more oil will lower gas prices.

Some dumbass brings up the Windfall Profits Tax, or as the folks at HuffPo have decided it should be called “The Cartel Profits Tax” (because the oil companies are a cartel, get it!).

Someone else comes along and preaches the truth about how the oil companies will just be adding the new tax onto the price per gallon.

Then Dave Johnson feels the need to jump into the comments section and show just how ignorant he is with this comment, which is the other RNS Quote of the Day:

Taxes are on profits, which are computed after sales and costs are added up. So companies CAN’T pass on taxes to the consumers. This is a myth. Companies charge the maximum they CAN charge for their product – no more and no less. If they were charging less they would be negligent. And since taxes are computed long after the sale they can’t be added anyway.

Dave Johnson

Yes, reading that will cause you to lose 10 IQ points.

I just couldn’t help it. I signed up for a login at the HuffPo and commented.

Granted, the comment didn’t last for much more than an hour, but I had to get this off my chest

Dave Johnson, you are an idiot.

It is called “Projected Costs”. As soon as the tax rate is legislated, it is calculated into the per gallon cost and then automatically tacked to the price to the retailer, who has to add it to the price at the pump or lose money.

This is a nice little conspiracy theory you”ve got going on here. Sadly for you, that is all it is: A theory.

Americans are tired of paying $4+ at the pump and they have listened and watched for 15 years as Democrat policies have kept our oil underground. They want those policies changed. They are not stupid. They can see for themselves that those policies do not work and they don’t need some pie in the sky “media campaign” to tell them this.

It doesn”t take much effort to see how you all have been wrong just a little bit at this point in the discussion. Which is why the wailing and gnashing of teeth, such as this post of yours, is at a high pitch whine now.

I”ve read in the comments here and on other posts that the Saudis won”t care if we turn our spigots, you all might want to check out The Independent from earlier this week: 250K extra barrels a day, starting immediately.

Give up on your fantasy of getting America to get off oil cold turkey. We need to be weaned slowly. Our homes and cars are our favorite things.

Just trying to bring joy to the world.

That’s fantastic. Do you think they pulled it because you called him an idiot, or exposed him as one?

    Woo-hoo! Speaking truth to stupidity.
