Assemblyman wants California to require “SmartGuns”
A California lawmaker is so sure that current biometric research will produce “smart” guns that he’s proposing to require them in coming years.
Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier has proposed legislation to ensure that new firearm models contain such technology within 18 months after it becomes commercially available.
Assembly Bill 2235 would require the attorney general to report annually on whether a smart gun is offered for sale in any state or country, which would trigger the mandate. If the technology is not marketed by 2014, the bill would expire.
Sure, it would “expire”. Unless some new jackass in the Assembly pops up in 2013 with more scare tactics and writes new legislation to kill only the expiration date. No new guns in California until the non-existent technology arrives on the wings of pixies. “Make the make them!” will be the rallying cry.
“I’m here to try to save lives,” said DeSaulnier, D-Concord.
No, sir. You are there to make sure the lights stay on, the roads stay usable and the criminals stay locked up. In fact, you might look into that last arena. I have heard that your state is rather lenient on criminals and that your recidivism rates are the highest in the nation. Just trying to help.
