Prior to the Easter recess, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was forced to intervene with Defense Secretary Robert Gates in order to get Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin’s domestic partner on a military flight for a congressional fact-finding trip to Europe.
Disregard the “same sex†angle of this story. The Dems are simply using that part of the story to beat The Pentagon and the executive office over the head.
Instead, ask your selves how many other House members are taking their spouses to Europe, airfare free, and covering it with an excuse of it being a “Fact Finding Mission�
What “Facts†are they missioning to “Find� Does Parisian espresso taste better than it’s American counterpart?
Personally, I’d like to see if they came home with more luggage than they left with.
How appropriate. Wasn’t it DeToqueville, a Frenchman, who originally opined that democracies couldn’t last because when their representatives found out that they could vote to tax the citizens for their own luxuries, and for goodies to buy votes with, that the democracy collapses in corruption?
Our democracy has already collapsed, but we are too stupid to see this, so we continue to follow all the rules of it’s proper decorum just as if it was continuing in good health.
When will it be time to hear again the ringing words of DeToqueville’s day, “Aux Barricades!”?

Do you think it really costs taxpayers any additional to send two people instead of just one? The plane’s going that way anyway.
Now if they’re tacking on other expenses to the bill, then I start having a problem with it.
