Boomershoot 2008 AAR

Best Boomershoot for me EVAR!! Bar none!

The only way I think that I could make you get just how good 08 was is to tell you that I wish I’d had the whole week to be there and pulling triggers. In fact, Dave the GM Guy (henceforth to be called simply “Dave”) and David and I all agreed that the minimum enjoyable time frame should be: Shooting Wed-Thurs-Fri and Event Sat-Sun.

Unfortunately for our demands, Joe has to work within a set schedule and has an all volunteer staff. They are already worked rather hard as it is, so I guess I’m going to have to figure out some other way to get my fix. I’ll let you know if I succeed.

In the meantime, I await the passage of another 360 days, give or take, for the next event. Yes, you should have been there.

Below are some of the many pictures taken by Dave. David will be along with his in a day or so as he gets settled back in at home, I’m sure.

We arrived on site Friday morning to find it a bit frosty. Then it snowed. We immediately began building the shelter.

And the cover not too long after the previous picture.

Once under cover, the snow was actually helpful during Field Fire, as doping wind was, literally, a breeze (though the actual winds varied from 12-15mph with gusts of 25mph).

Saturday was the complete opposite. Barely a cloud in the sky and 70 degrees.

There is a reason this man was smiling

Even though you can’t see it, I’m smiling too

I think Dave smiled the most though

Ahh, the “Day Of”. 70-75 degrees, just sunny enough to get some light mirage going, and very light winds. Perfect.

Again, this is an event not to be missed. Great folks, safe event. This truly is the Premier Long Distance Precision Rifle Shooting Event in the Pacific NW. I’ll let you all know when spots for 2009 open up (after I get my spot, of course). Don’t let yourself miss it.

Speaking of great people, the Saturday night Boomershoot Banquet raised over $1200 for Soldier’s Angels. Half of that money started out as prize cash given away to multiple attendees through the raffle held after dinner. Not a single one of the winners touched their envelopes of cash. The two $120 winners and the $360 winner each simply pointed to Joe as the person handing out the envelopes walked up to them.

Great event, great charity, great people.

    On the donations…

Two people independently came up to me on the quiet and each gave me $300 to donate directly. The total amount raised was $1860.

My internet is crap and I’ve tried to write this a few times, oh well…

Here I am three weeks ago in the second tac pistol class just 20 minutes from the Arkansas border in Missouri. This guy is talking about how he likes my new gun (well the EMP is about 6 months old now) and I was shooting his Kimber at the steel targets with way too much accuracy from that distance, but that’s what those classes are for at the end (“playing” around making the impossible shots).

Then he says, “Man, I would like to go to that Boomershoot thing.”

    WTF?!

I’m 20 minutes from Arkansas! God bless the internet.

I’m finally back in NC with the family, so yay for that. I’m glad you boys had a bit of fun.
