You make the call

Or “Do the Search”, or whatever you want to call it.

I’m looking for some sort of gun restricting initiative/legislation that was going around California sometime around 1986 – 1988. Something about cutting off any new sales of firearms, or maybe just handguns, in the state. It’ll come into play later this week if we can find it.

It isn’t imperative that I have it, so you Google-Fu practitioners can just look at it as a challenge to your skills (mine have failed miserably).

Same goes for you long-term masochists/residents of CA. Let us have you do some memory testing.

Don’t know if this counts since it’s a year off your date range, but the California Legislature created the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Act in 1989. It’s basically a ban similar to the national AWB (but doesn’t sunset) that limits the availability of certain semi-automatic guns based on cosmetics. Also around this time, the California DOJ created a program that reviews for approval all firearms that will be offered for sale in the state. From what I understand, it’s a real pain in the ass for manufacturers to get new guns approved for sale in California. It’s a wonder anyone does business here anymore…
